Poll question: OK I need your help, really. I beg everyone who sees this to vote:)
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 05:47 AM by Mobius
I have this unnamed friend who paints an actually does quite well selling her work on ebay. The problem is that I dont think its that good. I feel like such a bitch. I want you guys to rate this painting on a scale of 1 to 10 . ten being the best...Try to be as unbiased as possible. Thank you for participating:

She also cranks out atleast one a day and it looks like it takes here no more than an hour to get done.

1. I think your problem may be with the style
I don't like the style, but it's really well done. I paint and I can tell you this would not be an easy picture to paint. IMHO

4. Well I really like it.
I gave it an 8. I'd be inclined to buy it, if I bought art very often. Love the colors and the whole "folk art" aspect of it.

5. Why do you have a problem with this?
Personally, I don't think the picture is that great. However, there's worse stuff out there--even in "serious" art circles.

Your friend is having fun, expressing herself & making money. The people who buy her work are, at least, not investing in Thomas Kinkaid.

Lighten up. Feed your own creativity.

6. Nobody liked van Gogh until he died
It's really hard to judge her work based on one piece seen on a computer screen especially since she paints and it is not digital art. True art for me tends to take on meanings far and beyond what the artist originally intended. It is viewer active since it sparks different thoughts and emotions for each viewer.

Her work is definatly getting under your skin and that says something.

10. It's pretty good, naive art style. Could be a mid-80's Talking Heads LP.
Lot of people don't like faux-naive stuff, of course, so you're not alone there.

11. I see a lot of interpretive portaiture in there.... it reminds me
of frida khalo's work.... without the people.

I can see why you might not like it. But I can appreciate the composition, colors, and structure.

We don't have to like all the artist's work to appreciate the talent and gift behind the pieces produced.

Like Prince. Can't stand most of his music. LOVE his artistry.

But, if other people do, then they must like it.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I don't believe there is any objective criteria by which art can be judged.

15. I really like it except for...

...that ghost in the jar business--or whatever that is. That was the first thing I noticed about the painting and at first I didn't like it. If I ignore that part I actually enjoy the painting very much. The colors are wonderful.

16. Looks like something an 8 year old drew...
It's too busy, has too many subjects, and some of the colors clash. It's just not pleasing to the eye.
