What a way to come back from a "new comic break". Was there any lead-in to this at all?

B. D., the gung-ho war/Bush/Nixon/Reagan/Bush41 supporter, apparently has been injured while fighting in Iraq.

Possibly a mortal wound if he isn't treated immediately. (Think Jessica Lynch, only not in a vehicle accident).

His partner, who has been raising interesting questions about the validity of W's actions, is going to save his life.

Would be interesting if the "College Football star Quarterback" comes back barely able to move his legs, if he even still keeps them.

I don't get where people think BD was KIA....

If he is KIA, then you're going to have a lot of "pissed-off Republican 'non-readers' who all of a sudden started paying attention."

A touch of reality in today's "funnies".

I guess Trudeau figured the best way to hit folks hard about this is to talk about it in his strip.

When Trudeau drew his strip for the Yale Daily News, he introduced BD as a character to poke fun at Dowling. When he won national syndication, he carried BD over for some reason. At first he was Doonesbury's troglodyte roommate, then he volunteered to go to Vietnam, got a Purple Heart for an ugly beer can opening incident, and was famous for saying of Nixon that "The President is a lot smarter than you think." He's been defending the status quo and fighting in every Republican war ever since, although since Mike Doonesbury went Republican in the 80s, the BD character has been less needed as a foil.

The real Brian Dowling had about a ten minute NFL career.

somewhere in there they have a bio on all the characters. He's the one always wearing a helmet of some kind. I think it's cuz he has funky hair. I don't remember for sure.

Trudeau's bumped off supporting characters before, but I always thought a major star like BD would be last as long as Doonesbuy itself. Looks like I was wrong.

In todays it is revealed that he has lost his left leg below the knee. It is also the first time ever we see BD without a helmet.
