Hands down, THE BEST BBQ IN THE WORLD COMES FROM MY SMOKER.

But, BBQ is like sex - even bad BBQ is pertty good.

Gibson's - bob wallace ave and jordan ln. huntsville al pork of course
at the cross roads in centerville al don't know the name pork
Zacks out side of huston (ribs pork)
good company houston tx (chain resturant) garlic pork dry but ok

looking for a good one in denver - any help

where are the best ones - coast to coast

I say they must serve fries and real bakedbeans - not the texas beans

5. Ever heard of Dreamland?
They have 'em in Birmingham, Mobile and even Atlanta now, I think, but the original place, and the best, is in Tuscaloosa. No side dishes, just ribs, white bread, chips, beer and soft drinks. I think you're advised to go on weekends when they are extra busy, especially Saturdays during the fall when 'Bama's playing at home. It seems they have best cooks there when it's busy. Best ribs I've ever had. And funky, down-home atmosphere. I love the place.

6. Spent 4 years in t'town - roll tide
love them ribs but, served with only white bread.

My girlfriend would go get them while i cooked the beans and fries.

The bbq chicken at the place on the north side of the strip during the early eighties was great

Three weeks from today we play the number one team in the country. And with what the Tide's been through the last year, we'll have our hands full.

So you better pay a visit and lend support. :)

Oh yeah, Keith Jackson is my favorite football announcer ever. I wish he would come east again!

Love Dreamland, and miss it.

Horne's on 15th St. is also good, as is Tee's on 10th Ave.

I've never eaten at Horne's, but an old friend's sister used to work there, so it must be good.

I'm not familiar with Tee's but now I must seek them out!

Did the Republicans chase you out of T-Town? :)

26. I'm amazed at how many Alabama people are at DU
Granted, you left recently. But I think that there are probably more people at DU that are from Alabama than from any other state, per capita. I find that encouraging, in a storm of discouraging news.

That makes me happy. And it's good to be happy.

Hush puppies....I haven't had any good ones since I lived in Florida!

Try to make my own but I've never gotten the recipe right....best ones at a tiny little restaurant outside (west) of Jacksonville Florida. It was almost underneath a bridge...maybe it was even called THE BRIDGE ....best I've ever tasted!

14. Texas Bar-b-que
This is my first post after about 6 months of lurking, so here it goes.

My favorite place, if it still exists, is called "Pat Gee's." It is, or was, between Tyler and Longview, Texas. They had bar-b-qued ham that was out of this world! Cheap white bread and "Do you want some hot on that?" I got an added bonus when I washed my hair the next afternoon. The bar-b-que smoke had invaded my hair and the shower would smell of Pat's.

Honorable mention--"Grunt'n'Moo" in Montgomery, Ala.

And I've heard all about the Tuscaloosa Dreamland but have never been.

22. In nashville I like Bar B Cutie, but west of
Nashville is a place called The Perfect Pig.

The best BBQ in Lexington Ky is made at the Swahili lodge. They do it in 50 gal barrels out in the parking lot. I haven't had it for some time.

Now, this is not BBQ, but fish. We have a place called Charlies Seafood. It is only take out, but that's no big thing. They sell a fish sandwich that is a full meal. $4.00. It is just the fish and a hamburger bun with tarter sauce on the side. My wife can hardly finish one of their fish sandwiches. they taste great. It's at exit 110 on I-75. that's the Winchester road exit. head towards Lexington Ky, pass hwy 4 and go down the hill. It will be a small white building on the corner to the left.

24. Friar's BBQ chicken recipe
marinade:
juice of: 2 limes, 2 lemons, 1 orange
EVOO
vinegar
paprika
cumin (only a little)
cayenne (lots)
dash celery salt
dash onion powder
salt
pepper
1/2 finely chopped scallion
minced garlic (lots)
1 minced roasted red jalepeno w/ seeds
1/4 finely minced habanero pepper (or more if you can dig it)
drop of Tamari
bit of sugar

2 good fresh chickens from butcher or reliable source- not a grocery store! Gawd, those things are toxic.

Amounts are mostly approximate because it should be a little different every time.

Cut up chicken as usual and marinate for 24 hours. Smoke with hickory or mesquite at 200 degrees for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, whatever, until done. Don't over cook. Can also be grilled for 1/2 hour or so just fine.

DO NOT coat with any BBQ sauce crap. This is chicken.

You'll thank me.

30. Don't ever get BBQ in Merrillville Indiana
My sister used to live there. There was this place called Mr. Bones. It was nothing but oven baked ribs with open pit bbq sauce on it. Green Mesquite, Ironworks, POKey Joes, and Taylor cafe have the BEST BBQ in the Austin Tx area in my opinion.

Hands down the best in the state. Period.

In Owensboro, KY, Moonlite BBQ. Again, hands down, period.

And come to think of it, those are likely the top 2 in the entire nation.

34. There are so many in TX
that are good that it's hard to pick just one.

In Greenville (my home town) both The Spare Rib and Ernie's Pit Barbecue rock. The Spare Rib was even featured once in National Geographic.

In Austin you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a god barbecue joint. Texas Rib Kings is right down the street from my house and not only is it good it's cheap and they serve ya way too much.

As the gang from the redistricting rally can tell ya, Scholtz's is really yummy as well. So is the Salt Lick. Their branch at the Austin airport makes getting there early to go through Security more than worth it.

I travel through a lot of little TX towns and I find lots of really good barbecue there. If you ever find yourself stuck in Brownwood, TX - go to Underwood's for the bread (I mean it - it's a religious experience in itself) but hit a little hole-in-the-wall called Smitty's for the actual barbecue. Just be careful of the Sweetened tea - they really mean it. :-)

And there's a little place down on the border in Edinburg that I don't remember the name of but all the locals can tell ya where it is. All the firefighters eat lunch there. You can watch them cut up your meat and it's a sight to behold.

Just remember this handy fact when traveling in TX (or most places in the South for that matter). If it's a red metal building with a screen door and a little old man and his wife are running it together...go in and sit down because you're probably about to have the culinary experience of a lifetime. :-)

41. Scottsdale, AZ: BBQ Smokehouse
"the only restaurant in Arizona to serve authentic Carolina style BBQ"

... it's the closest thing I've tasted ever since I was "spoiled" by the former Huey's Restaurant in Burlington, NC back in the late 60s ...

of course, I've since moved further West ... but, I'd buy it by the quart size

the Hush Puppies and Brunswick Stew wasn't on par, but the Brunswick Stew isn't bad at all

BBQ Smokehouse is located at the SE corner of Indian Bend and Hayden Roads. www.BBQSmokehouse.com.

now ... what about southern California ... any North Carolina-style BBQ?????

to each his/her own, but I don't go for all that saucy stuff

42. Norfolk, VA - Doumar's
http://doumars.com/

20th St & Monticello

with authentic "curb service"

Abe Doumar came from Damascus, Syria; and created the first ice cream cone at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. One evening he purchased a waffle from a nearby vendor, rolled it into a cone and topped it with ice cream.

It was so successful, he designed a four-iron waffle machine and brought his parents and brothers to America. During the Jamestown Exposition of 1907, he launched his ice cream cone business at Ocean View Amusement Park. On a single day there, they sold nearly 23,000 cones!
