This is why you always get a 2nd opinion
Beginning of March I had to to the ER in the middle of the night with pains on the right side of my abdomin.

Forty, Female, Fat - gall bladder, right?

But they do an ultra sound, and there are no stones.

So they say - go see this Dr. X, a surgeon, and have a HIDA scan cause it could be gallbladder disease without stones.

The HIDA scan is supposed to show gallbladder function. So I have the test - Dr. X calls me and sayd - a healthy gallbladder functions at 65% - mine functions at 8% - so basically my gallbladder's not working, and that's why I had the pain.

He says - 85% of the people who have this condition have surgery and feel better. But he's a surgeon, so of course he would say that right?

I say - I want to see a gastroenterologist. This morning I had the results of the HIDA scan faxed to me, and i'm looking at the results and the last line says the results were mostly liely because the chemical in the test was injected when the gall bladder was not fully disrended. And I'm thinking - it sounds like they got the results they did because the test wasn't done right.

And guess what? That's exactly what it meant. The surgeon recommended surgery based on a test that wasn't done correctly!!!!!!
And I probably don't even need to have surgery.

I'm so pissed!!! And so happy at the same time!

1. Had my ACL reconstructed
and on the way into the OR, the nurse handed me a marker sealed in a sterile bag and said: "Please mark an X on the leg you want us to operate."

I had to think about it for a second...just so *I* didn't make the mistake.

3. There was a scene like that on ER where they were amputating
a guy's arm, and he marked it with a magic market so they wouldn't amputate the wrong arm. Sadly, I think that's probably happened in real life.

2. You definately have to research when it comes to medical stuff
Too many people just go by the old "my doctor said" thing without getting a second opinion or doing any research on their own when it comes to their health. I'm glad you took another step and I hope everything works out for you.
