Eagle Bay on Lake Erie

I drove up US Route Five a little while ago. I parked
Just off the highway on the shore of Lake Erie. It is
one of the few spots one when walk down to the water.
There is no cliff there. The bay is named for the Eagles
that once lived there. Only their name remains.

I often go there when I have discovered a piece of
music I have somehow missed on my journey through life.
Today I am listening to Jules Massenet-Thais: Meditation.
The violins are sobbing their song, the deep throated
cellos moaning.

Off in the distance on the western horizon the sails of a two
masted Bark are reflecting brightly the shining sun.
The water is dark, brown and greenish in color, the gift
of the viscious storms which swept the length of the lake
last night and early this morning.

Years ago when we were young and greatly in love
we came here at night, my wife and I. We laid together
on the rocky sand shore. We talked, we loved.
