Poll question: Ray Charles is God…the only question is…
…What is his best song?

Honorable mentions that didn't make the poll:

Hallelujah I Love Her So
Everybody ask me how I know/I smile at them and say she told me so/that’s how I know/ lord I know/Hallelujah I just love her so

Ruby
They say, Ruby, you’re like a dream/not always what you seem…

Unchain My Heart
Unchain my heart, baby let me go/unchain my heart, cause you don’t love me no more…

One Mint Julep
(Instrumental…)

Brother Ray is getting long in the tooth, but I still hope to catch him live someday. You rock, Ray Charles.

1. I Can't Stop Loving You
...what a man....what a song....

They say that time heals a broken heart
But time has stood still since we've been apart

He also does a good cover of Van Morrison's song Gloria - real bluesy and kinda erotic.

3. I never vote in my own polls
But I had to go with Rainy Night on this one. That song still gives me the shivers after all these years. I love his little spoken part at the end about finding some Sterno and kicking back.

But ya know...if I can just get my hands on some sterno...bla bla bla...I believe it's raining all over the world...

5. Yes, I know
Are you going to sit there and tell me, YOU - NIGHT TRAIN - that you've never heard Ray's version? That you don't LOVE IT? That it doesn't ring your bell? You most of all I expect to weigh in with a meaty opinion on this. Don't disappoint me. :D

8. "Busted," a song for the times.
My bills are all due and the baby needs shoes and I'm busted
Cotton is down to a quarter a pound, but I'm busted
I got a cow that went dry and a hen that won't lay
A big stack of bills that gets bigger each day
The county's gonna haul my belongings away cause I'm busted.

I went to my brother to ask for a loan cause I was busted
I hate to beg like a dog without his bone, but I'm busted
My brother said there ain't a thing I can do,
My wife and my kids are all down with the flu,
And I was just thinking about calling on you 'cause I'm busted.

Well, I am no thief, but a man can go wrong when he's busted
The food that we canned last summer is gone and I'm busted
The fields are all bare and the cotton won't grow,
Me and my family got to pack up and go,
But I'll make a living, just where I don't know cause I'm busted.

I'm broke, no bread, I mean like nothing ..

9. Hell Yes, great song
Always reminds me of Brook Benton's Boll Weevil Song. They came out about the same time. 1959-ish, I think it was.
