Winged Migration - The Movie....a question

If you saw this movie you may recall that at the beginning of the movie their is a disclaimer that says something to the effect that, " No special effects were used in filming the birds"

Well, do you remember the scene with the tern bird flying so high above the earth that you can see the outline of the continents and the curvature of the earth.

My brother says that was done with special effects/ digital processing.

My question.

Does anybody know for sure if this scene was or wasn't done with special effects?

They might NOT consider 'compositing' a special effect. Simply placing 2 images on top of each other...

And I'm sure that 99% of the movie does not contain any special effects. But to say that a movie doesn't contain any is certainly not true. What's the definition of digital effects? Almost all movies modify the lighting of their shots to tailor the mood through editing programs like Avid Express.

About the scene you're referring to, I think it is a special effect. Nevertheless, the film maker might have been trying to make a point at the beginning of the film. It's true, the film certainly does not rely on special effects to captivate the audience which is far different that the vast majority of films that come out today.

A great film I thought though it got a little long and the scenes in which the birds were being shot at by hunters was surprisingly very hard to watch.
