DUer on TV
Hi all! :hi:

Derby and I went down to San Antonio to participate in a Discovery channel program called "Miracle Hunters". It is finally airing on Discovery on Wednesday, April 28. As it turned out, I wound up in the hospital fighting for my life, but Derby took my research and filled in for me. The episode we were involved with was about haunted railroad tracks in SA. Hopefully, that is the episode coming on this week.

1. Keep us updated!
My TV rarely strays from Discovery, whenever I bother to turn it on.

3. I'm fine, thank you!
It took a while, but I'm fine. The good news is that I lost so much weight that I don't have to take blood pressure medicine anymore! It's going to be weird watching the program knowing what I was doing at the time.

I have a friend whose hobby is hunting the paranormal.

She's about to get a computer . Do you have any
websites to recommend ? Are there any clubs ?

:hi:

13. North Texas Skeptics
We do a good bit of that sort of thing. So far, there's been an ordinary explanation, but we don't dismiss anything out of hand. Here's our website:

15. Grew up in SA
Been to the tracks and midget mansion.
There are no ghosts there.
It would be cool if there were but it is an optical illusion that the road slopes up.

25. It's pretty convincing looking
At least until you get surveyors in there. People also report the screams of the children, but there's a peacock farm down the road.

29. I've been to those tracks...
It is not haunted. I've been there when people put baby powder on their back windows and bumpers to try to "see" the handprints of the children. No go.

That legend is as old as the Donkey Lady. No kids ever died at those tracks. It is sadly an Urban Legend. A good one I'll grant you. Hell I've know more than a few people who went there drunk and spooked themselves out.

From snopes.com
Although the city of San Antonio has long claimed this folk tale as its own, pointing to the railway crossing where Villamain Road becomes Shane Road where cars seem to behave strangely and a set of nearby streets named after children (Bobbie Allen, Cindy Sue, Laura Lee, Nancy Carole, and Richey Otis), the bus accident took place in Salt Lake City, a city more than a thousand miles away.

In December 1938, twenty-six children, aged 12 to 18, lost their lives when the school bus they'd been travelling in stalled on the tracks and was struck by a freight train. No similar accident took place in San Antonio, but in 1938 that city was subjected to about ten days' worth of gruesomely detailed coverage in its local newspaper, memory of which afterwards served to convince later generations the tragedy had taken place locally.

San Antonio's "ghost tracks" are nothing more than an optical illusion. The mysterious movement of vehicles at that crossing is the result of a slight incline at the site, which works to roll vehicles that have been slipped into neutral off the tracks. As for the nearby streets supposedly christened in memoriam to the children who died, they were actually named in honor of a developer's grandchildren.

32. Like I told them
There's a reason the police use fingerprint evidence. Fingerprints last a really long time. That was a pretty easy one to debunk. I was a little alarmed that trains still run on that track with all the drunks trying to get "ghost children" to push their car while it's in neutral. Did I misunderstand that about the trains? Has anyone gotten hurt doing that?

34. not as far as I know...
But going to "the Tracks" is a pretty common high school thing to do.

I'd love to believe there is something more other-worldly going on out there. San Antonio is a very old city and quite full of haunts and ghosts.

But the fact remains that the so called "accident" that supposedly occurred to bring about this phenomena, never really happened.

No bus with kids in it was ever hit at that site.

Hubby here - it's my face, yes, but it's your research. I was just there to look cute and speak on your behalf; you did all the legwork on this project.

I'm still hoping they broadcast the part where I said you get full credit for this. :p
