Boy Scouts Introduce New Merit Badge

IRVING, TX - On July 24, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced a new addition to its sizeable repertoire of awards: the Eldritch Lore Merit Badge.

"The creation of the new badge accomplishes two very important objectives," says Scoutmaster Jonah Whaite. "It expands the knowledge and skill base available to all scouts through the merit badge program, and it fills what was a rather troublesome hole in the Youth Protection Training Program."

Isn't the Youth Protection Training Program designed to protect children from abuse?

"That's how it began," answered Whaite, "but we realized something more was needed when scouts started to get picked off by elder horrors during wilderness outings."

Citing one example of such misfortune, Scoutmaster Whaite described the loss of Troop 185 in 2002.

"They were exploring some caverns near Waterloo, IL when they found a previously undiscovered chute. Unfortunately, by the time they realized it led to the subterranean lair of Tsathoggua, it was too late to retreat to safety."

Other cavern visitors listened in horror as the screams of the doomed scouts filtered up from the depths. Cavern guide Cletus MacPhee hastened down to help, but quickly scrambled back when his light revealed a horde of formless spawn devouring the children.

"There's no need for such terrible incidents to ever happen again," said Whaite. "One scout with the Eldritch Lore badge can protect his entire troop through awareness, prevention, and incantations. Heck, the badge itself serves as a working elder sign."

2. But they changed the orginal design!
The original had Enochian Spirit Tablet names on it as well. I guess that was hard to embroider?
