Business Booming For Plus-Size Thong Makers
<snip>

Retailer Torrid is carving out a niche that fits -- in the plus-sized market. The company sells sexy clothes for large young women in more than 50 stores across the country.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Torrid has everything from camisole-and-thong lingerie sets to belly-button revealing T-shirts. CEO Betsy McLaughlin said her customers want to be sexy and feminine -- in sizes from 12-26.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I am married to a big woman and let me tell ya,she is a real sexpot. It is next to impossible to find a size 2 woman with a natural 44ddd set.

I must send the mrs. the link. The more stuff available for BBW's and FFW's the better. :)

16. If your man thinks you're sexy ...
then, damnit, you are!

But as a general rule, I think heavier girls should shy away from the low-rise pants and thong underwear.

However, sizes 12,14 and 16 are, to me, normal sized not plus sized.

If a woman, no matter what size, wants to wear thong underwear under her pants to avoid lines why is that a problem? No one is being forced to see it and you wouldn't know she was wearing it anyway.

29. Here's the key: Sarcasm
"Bad Fatties" = fat people who other folks feel they can make fun of.

Fat people are always portrayed negatively by the media. Hence, "Bad Fatties."

It's like "Uppity N*****s". 100% mockery, 0% insult. And reverse those percentages for the idiots who buy into the bigotry.

Incidentally, I am in that position.

8. I've been assorted sizes, but....
Call me old fashioned, but I think when you're in the plus size zone (at one time I was), thongs just aren't quite right. I wouldn't have anyway, but perhaps the world missed out because of it.
I sometimes wear them now and I'm self-critical enough (I'm a size 10, borderline 8) but some pants just don't need the lines.

9. I disagree.
I'm a size 12 or 14 depending on clothing types. I think thongs are comfortable (gasp. I know, I said it!) and I rarely notice they are there (go ahead, say it's because of all the excess flab lol). Wearing a thong is basically like wearing any type of clothing, as long as you FEEL sexy in it, who cares? And I don't think that they descriminate because of size. Granted, some people may not want to think of me or anyone in my size or bigger in a thong, but oh well. I'm not here to please anyone else.

13. You're right
It's about what you feel comfortable in as an individual. For me, I might not, but then again I can be way to self-conscious about this stuff for myself personally and that's on me. However, even when I was a 16 or 18, I still bought lingerie (usually satin chemises and the like). Frederick's always had a great selection of stuff in bigger sizes.

18. Unless you are less than 5' tall, you are close to perfect size ...
Of course, I would probably say the same thing to a girl who felt she was a little on the skinny side. I've never understood guys who are so uptight about a girl's weight. It would be a turnoff if a woman were grossly obese, or if she were anorexic, but all those normal sizes in the middle are great.

154. That's why my husband wants me to start skating again!
since I lost 15 pounds, I now have NO butt, none at all. I was only a size 8 before, and never had much of a butt to begin with, but now I'm flat as a ruler behind. It is not an attractive look.

Either way, though, I personally find thongs much more comfortable than butted panties, and if someone who's bigger than Gilbert Grape's mother wants to wear 'em too, it's no one else's beeswax. Wear what YOU like.

17. Torrid sells more than thongs....
They have clothing & accessories for larger young ladies with attitude. The ones who don't believe that showing up in something conservative & navy blue will make them look like a size 2. Or don't care.

Very cool stuff. Mostly too young for me & mostly too large--but maybe I need the ankle socks that say "Bite Me". Just for lounging at home...

Thongs are much better if you don't like pantylines, no matter WHAT size you are! If you don't want to see chubby cheeks, then don't get a curvy girl naked! Why would anyone else care what someone is wearing under her pants?!

There was a group of large ladies who used to come into the bar I worked in. They always dressed very sexy and danced very sexy, and the men LOVED them! Sexy is 85% attitude!

Big beautiful women look better when they are dressed sexy than dressed to camoflage! I think one thing people misunderstand is that some women try to wear clothes that are not made for their size, such as a too-tight t-shirt, and that loks bad. But a fitted t-shirt MADE for a size 16 looks right on a size 16 woman.

I've been fit and I've been fat, and right now, I'm on the chubby side. I plan to get fit again, but I'll still dress to accentuate what I got in the meantime!

I'm no longer technically a "big girl" and I buy shoes from torrid. Got the greatest pair of Mary Jane's with 3.5 inch heels on 'em from torrid. :) They also have fun jewelry sometimes.

I don't buy undies from them, thong or otherwise (and yes, for the prurient among you I do sometimes wear a thong), but only because I have issues with buying underwear over the internet.

The point is to make this at least mildly entertaining for our fellow DUers so they don't complain and get the thread locked. Not that matcom doesn't deserve a thread-jacking. But eventually they will get tired of us and someone will alert and Skinner will lock the thread while one of us is in the middle of typing and the person who posted last won't get to really be the winner.

87. I remember but...
I'm not gonna rehash it again. :)

The thing you have to understand is that there are a lot of big girls on DU. Hell, the definition of what's overweight has gotten so out of control that some people still look at me as "fat" and I'm between a size 8 and 10. (I was a size 24 a little over 2 years ago. This is a sensitive subject for me.) You're probably lucky it was me who decided to smack you around instead of some of the women on DU who take MUCH MORE offense about weight-issues. There have been several flame wars in the last few months centering around discrimination against and insensitivity toward fat people. It can get really nasty.

60. But Many Of Us Are Attracted to Plus-Size Women
I've been attracted to big girls (and later on, big women) since I was ten years old - in 1962. Since 1972 (after a stint in jr high and high school when I tried to deny my preference), I dated (and married) large women exclusively. I've been involved with women who have ranged anywhere from 180 lbs to over 450 lbs.

To me, overly skinny women are "gross", to use your term. I find the sight of a woman's ribs showing through her skin to be thoroughly repulsive.

106. I'm for size acceptance with health awareness
All people should be happy with their bodies and our culture SHOULD celebrate the full figured woman (and man)

HOWEVER, as a PT in a past life, I also don't want to see diabetes and heart problems go on and kill those rubenesque godesses...

But at the same time, some women are big and at their healthiest - for some women size 10 IS the healthiest they can be, and any further weight loss would hurt them.

A conundrum for sure...

130. Diabetes And Heart Problems Can Affect Thin Folks As Well
My mother was rail-thin and had hypertension and a weak heart, as a reult of scarlet fever as a child. She lived to 72. I also had an aunt who spent most of her adult life over 300 pounds, and she lived to 73.

131. Exceptions...both of them
A heart has to work harder to pump blood through a larger body. Some skinny people have heart problems, but when you are obese your heart risks increase by one hundred. Is this unfair? Yes but that's life.

On a side note, a heart has to work just as hard if it's pumping blood through a big fat body as it does to pump blood through a big muscular body. That means pro bodybuilders are also affected by bad hearts.

However, people can help the way they react to large people. It's wrong to automatically assume that a fat person is a lazy glutton - there may be a medical condition that cannot be seen.

136. Hey - I never said fat people were lazy gluttons
NEVER! (Please, don't put words in my mouth - okay?)

And you are very correct, some people have heart conditions that prevent them from burning fat, some people have physical conditions that prevent them from excersizing.

And of course, some people can't afford to eat healthy. Lean meat is much more expensive than fatty meat.

I'm just arguing that size acceptance is important, and large can be sexy. Hell, I think a woman smoking a cigarette is sexy! But is it necesarrily healthy? Obesity is dangerous for your heart - I don't think you can find a doctor on this planet who will tell you differently.

It all comes down to how hard your heart has to work to pump blood, and how strong it is. If you strengthen your heart through cardiovascular excersize, you can have a bigger body as your heart can take it. Of course, the more cardiovascular excersize you do, the more fat you burn...so it kind of takes care of itself.

Just don't put words in my mouth - it's not very civil - ok?

Society is very hard on people with larger bodies, and the size acceptance movement is a long time in coming. The fact that our society glamorizes pencil-thin waifs doesn't help shit any either...

I just know the health risks associated with obesity - and whats funny is weight really has nothing to do with it! Fat doesn't either (as I mentioned, pro bodybuilders often have heart problems later in life too)

As long as she has a fan as dedicated as you she'll be ok :)

Upset that someone they think is beneath them is not showing an 'appropriate amount of shame' in thier presence.

Fortunatly reality does not abide by thier narrow view and we have a multiplicity of people in the world. Black, white, sort of brownish yellow, fat, thin, somewhere in-between, gay, bi, straight, curious, short, tall, athiest, christian, catholic, muslim, satanist, pagans and more.

I still got a nice rear-view in a size 10. I got the greatest compliment of my life from two of the managers in my agency's HR department. They were complimenting me last week on losing so much weight without losing my butt. Given that they are two of the most beautiful (and curvy) African-American women I've ever had the good fortune to know, I was feeling pretty damn good about myself that day. :)

155. No, it just becomes impossible to buy off the rack
or buy adult clothes. I'm a very normal, not-that-thin, 5'2", 115 lbs, and I'm getting to where I can't buy clothes at some stores now, because a lot of them start the women's sizes at 6. A 6 is my normal size, but some 6's are too big for me now. I remember the last time I was too thin, when I dropped below a size 2 - it was more or less impossible to buy clothes that fit.

I only get that thin when I'm horribly depressed.

a couple of weeks ago and my bra size has changed drastically. I was kind of swimming in the old ones and I guess I had been wearing them for so long that I didn't notice. My cup size is still the same but the under the boobs measurement has gone down 4 inches. :)

127. I feel so small now sometimes
I know I'm not (I'm still of the 36 variety and same cup size I think), but three years ago, I was breastfeeding, 70 pounds heavier (but I did just have a baby though) and something like a 42H. That was huge (backachingly huge). Uhhggg! Anyway, I'm very happy to be an hourglass again. I guess I was before as well, but more of a two hour glass I suppose.

151. I get that all the time...
The worst part is up until about a few years ago I still looked really really young. I can remember being about 24 or 25 and having some punk kid ask me what grade I was in. :)

149. Be careful VelmaD ...
I don't know how tall you are, but they don't call it a perfect 10 for nothing!

If you've got back, make sure you don't lose it!!

150. I'm about 5'8"
Tall for a woman but not really tall. Which sucks. My daddy is 6'6" and I was kinda hoping for a career in the WNBAl...but alas. *sigh* :)

I don't think I have to worry too much about losing the "back". It's seems quite permanently attached. It's the "front" I'm working like a maniac to get rid of...I hate my lower abs. x(

Seriously, don't go below a size 8. I was thinking you might be 5'2" or something.

Also 5'8" is a great height for a girl to be.

Of course, maybe I'm a little biased. Your dimensions... ahem... remind me of someone I know in real life and should probably log off the computer and pay more attention to.

Have a great weekeend VelmaD, and all of you other plus-size thong afficianados!

125. Since when is a size 12 large? None of those sizes are what I would
call huge. It's really a shame that girls feel they need to be a 6 or lower to be pretty. Thank God for MrG...He's loved me at size 24 (and I didn't look that big) and he has loved me at a size 10 and all the sizes in between. :hi:

129. I am definately not a size 6...
actually I'm a very proportionate size 18. I don't think that I look disgusting in a thong and I must say that it's a heck of a lot nicer to wear things when I am wearing light colored or tighter in the ass pants. Panty lines just suck.

I say hell yeah to this company. If size negative zero's can have tiny little thongs and no butt ot hold them up, why can't I?

I'm all about celbrating our selves no matter WHAT size we are!

I am woman, hear me roar? :) :P

144. Whatever brightens up people's dreary little lives.
Seems like every time I log onto these boards there's some group somewhere making unkind remarks about the hefty. Is this a tradition with you folks?

146. Fat Bashing Appears To Be A Popular Hobby
It's as if large people are the last group that is's OK to make fun of. Well, that's NOT OK, AFAIK. Fat people should be treated with the same respect and courtesy as others.
