Fraternity blows cannon into apartments; two arrested
Believe it or not, this is actually LBN, but given the events of the past few days, it didn't seem right to put it over there. And I wonder if it is really true. Few news outlets have picked it up...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2004-05-01-frat-cannon_x.htm

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) ? Members of the Kappa Alpha fraternity tried to load an antique cannon on their front lawn with fireworks, but destroyed the cannon and blew out the window of an second floor apartment across the street.

An 8-inch portion of the cannon, which legend says dates to the Civil War, crashed through the roof of the apartment building, tearing through the fifth floor before landing on a pingpong table in the lounge on the fourth floor. The explosion also left some debris imbedded in the building's brick exterior. No one was hurt.

5. Guinea Pigs scream in flight and provide early warning
Hamsters, on the other hand, just splat on the intended target.

2. Sounds like frat boys
Sometimes they get crazy with weapons. Perhaps they were launching a pre-emptive strike on the non-Greeks across the street?

It's good nobody was hurt from their stupidity. Wish I could say the same for our frat-boy-in-chief!

4. I had a friend who did something like that.

Note the use of the word "had". A piece of the cannon took off half his head, in front of his son.

Moral: Smart people do stupid shit. Don't do stupid shit.

6. Oops.
Those silly college kids, what will they think of next?

I say, let 'em stick to raunchy tasteless 1980s pseudo-sex pics (Revenge of the Nerds, et al) and put Peeps in the microwave... :eyes:

7. KAs....the Confederacy rides again!
I don't know if KAs everywhere do this, but here (Louisiana) they have a Sons of the South ball every year, where the guys dress up in Confederate uniforms and all the girls dress like true Southern Bells with hoop skirts and all that crap.....and blacks cannot attend. My son goes to college in Shreveport, and one of the KAs was dating a black girl. The KAs would not let him live in the frat house because of his girlfriend's race. When the ball came around, they refused to let his girlfriend attend. The big highlight of the ball is to shoot the cannon.

10. Anyone else ever brandish a "funnelator" in college???
Edited on Sat May-01-04 09:27 PM by gristy
It's a funnel with two holes on opposite sides near the rim, and lots of surgical tubing stretched from those holes to a rigid structure. Put a water balloon in the funnel, pull it back as far a you can, and let go.

WOW!

We could hit the frat a long ways across the street from our balcony. Things got a little out of hand one day when we tied a bunch of firecrackers to the balloon before sending it on its way.

11. A couple guys in my marine unit did that to the airwing barracks once
Smashed the window right next to some girl's bed and covered her with wet glass. You've never seen 5 marines disappear that fucking fast.
