Been looking for this out of print LP for 15 years!
My husband found it for me yesterday and I'm listening to it now. Soooo satisfying.

The LP: Let's Skip the Details, My Dad is Dead.

Anyone remember this one?

5. Yeah...
...those were great days to collect records. I was a college DJ in the late 80s. So glad I was able to do that.

What do you play?

7. drums mostly
also some guitar, piano ( actually I played that first) and a little bass. Whatever I was asked to do! I wound up as the drummer since no one else was willing and I am finally taking lessons after 15 years of basically being self-taught.

11. My husband's a drummer.
He also plays guitar, bass and trumpet. He's learning clarinet now too. But he too ends up mostly playing drums 'cause no one else can play.

I play guitar.

6. LIKE THE GIBSON BROS!
Well, they WERE on Homestead... was Great Plains on Homestead, too?

("You like everything that comes out on 4ad.
You like everything that comes out on SST.
You like almost everything that comes out on Homestead.
I LIKE EVERYTHING I GET IN THE MAIL FOR FREE!
How 'bout that?")

"Bad Moon Rising" by Sonic Youth was on Homestead.

To rbnyc:

I'm familiar with My Dad Is Dead, but I don't know that record. I'm glad you're having a blast listening to it, though!

8. well w
you were lucky that you were a dj and saw most of that stuff firsthand, I'm guessing. My pal Mike was also a college dj, plus so was the singer in our band ( she also recorded a single with Chris Stamey with her first band - wow), and that is how Mike knew about all this stuff. And I was lucky enough to hang around with them and got the benefit. 4AD - Throwing Muses were on that initially, right? If I dug out the albums I could look, and Dead Can Dance. I love Dead Can Dance.

10. Well, Great Plains and Gibson Bros. were playing in the '80s...
...long before my radio daze.

And yeah, TM and DCD were on 4ad -- so were the Pixies. The lyrics I quoted were from the classic Great Plains song "Letter to a Fanzine" -- along with the timeless line "why do punk rock guys go out with new wave girls?"

9. No, but I got a nom de record store due to a similar quest
Mr. Lindisfarne, the owner called me, for 10 years during my search for the lp Fog On The Tyne. The dang bee-hind never told me it had came in; knew I'd check, I guess. The record was actually a bit of a disappointment, and it was nothing like the search for "Resurrection Shuffle" by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke (20 years, culminating in an mp3 off Morpheus a few years back), but it was good to finally get a hold of the doggone thing.
