You knew this day would come: Favorite GO-GOS tune
As ever, if there's any interest a) I'll know I'm not the only 40-something here and b) I'll slap together a poll eventually. (Did the Go-Gos even have 9 songs? Kidding!)

I gotta go with "Head Over Heels" for the fine Schroeder-style piano work. Still I wouldn't argue with anybody who wanted to push "We Got the Beat," "I'm A Sicilian" (yeah, yeah, I know, it's "Our Lips Are Sealed") or "Vacation."

For extra credit, who's your favorite Go-Go? I'm for Jane for her singing on the chorale from "Lips" and Charlotte otherwise for writing the best songs. Can you believe DU2 had gone 9 months without any Go-Gos threads? (43,000 DUers roll their eyes and in unison, say "Yes!")

1. We got the beat
See the people walking down the street
Fall in line just watching all their feet
They don't know where they wanna go
But they're walking in time

They got the beat
They got the beat
Yeah
They got the beat

See the kids just getting out of school
They can't wait to hang out and be cool
Hang around 'til quarter after twelve
That's when they fall in line

Kids got the beat
They got the beat
They got the beat
Yeah
Kids got the beat

Go-go music really makes us dance
Do the pony puts us in a trance
do the watusi just give us a chance
That's when we fall in line

We got the beat
We got the beat
We got the beat
Yeah
We got the beat

Everybody get on your feet
We know you can dance to the beat
Jumpin'-get down
Round and round and round

4. Alice The Seal
For years, actually until only recently, I always thought they were singing...."Alice the seal".....so imagine my shock at learning what they were really singing was...."Our lips are sealed".

I was flabbergasted, I tell ya.

:silly: huh?

5. you missed it I had a GO-GOS thread on Friday
but no one had much to say... I have the Best of disc... it is pretty good. Head Over Heels has that great piano break, right? I like Vacation, too. I am torn between Gina ( one of the best female r and r drummers) and Charlotte ( great writing.)

10. And Gina still has her punk rock name.
"Gina Schock" -- there are very few R&R names better than that (The Germs' Lorna Doom comes to mind).

Belinda was calling herself "Dottie Danger" for a while....

16. yeah there were a lot of names like that
like the folks in the Cramps, Richard Hell, the Ramones ( well that is a little different I guess.) Darby Crash, that was the Germ's singer right? Boy, I had to reach way back in the memory bank for that one. Justin Sane of Antiflag ( the brother of a friend of mine) and his cronies are some of the "newer" punks carrying on that fine tradition.

17. Yeah, Darby Crash was the Germs' singer.
I also like Lux Interior and Poison Ivy (Cramps, but you knew that).

But Lorna Doom is the best name ever. ;)

in a black Muslim temple... that had a bunch of punk gigs. Never figured that one out!

11. Head Over Heals perhaps
They epitomized coolness for the early 80's pre-teen female crowd. Plus, since people have told me for about 17 years now that I look like Belinda (in the magenta jacket), I have to like them a little. :7

The Bangles sucked.

Michael Steele is and was HOT, but I hated the lead singer...

20. I'm a big fan of the GoGos
Whenever I hear Our Lips Are Sealed or Vacation, I crank the radio up and sing along. And I have to crank it up just to drown myself out - can't sing worth a damn. Belinda was my favourite

25. These GO-GO ladies still rock HARD
Their 2001 album "God Bless the Go-Gos" was great. It was like not a year had passed since their last album. Some really awesome stick-in-your-head tunes.

As for favorite song, I gotta go with "Vacation".
