Any Martin Denny fans?
Edited on Mon May-03-04 11:35 AM by bif
I just discovered this guy over the weekend. Very fun lounge music. If I like his stuff, who else should I listen to?

1. Well, there's...
...his only currently available live album, "Baked Alaska"...

...but the winner for the "if you could only afford one Martin Denny CD" would be the 2-CD retrospective The Exotic Sounds of Martin Denny...

...but if you're on a tight budget, Rhino Records did an admirable job with a single-CD version of the essentials called Exotica: The Best of Martin Denny:

And while you're at it, don't forget an essential from one of Denny's former band members: Taboo: The Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman

Once you have these, it's a venture from "fan" to "fanatic"...

A good overall collection of the genre is Capitol's "Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 1: Mondo Exotica "...

...which has some prime Martin Denny and throws in his compadre Les Baxter for good measure.

Happy listening.

2. I'm a HUGE fan...
My favorite is called "Afro-Desia" where he adds African rhythms to his soundz...a BEAUTIFUL Album!!!

I've actually got like 16 of his albums on original vinyl...I started listening to his stuff in the mid 80's (I was turned on to him by the experimental band "Throbbing Gristle"), and back then, you could find his stuff for 50 cents anywhere...I even found a mint copy of "Exotic Moog" (the holy grail of Denny collectors).

Welcome to Denny's world...there's hours & hours of beautiful sounds to be found!!!
