1. A state whose head of state is a Grand Duke or Grand Duchess.
Luxembourg, for example. No idea of what you mean by passing it on the left hand side.

9. I heard it explained that a duchie is actually
a cooking pot, as in cookware. Remember the lyric, "How does it feel when you got no food?" They changed the word for the English version of the song. But yes, the song is actually about passing a joint.

it's actually slang for "cutchie", a rasta chalice, which is a ganja pipe.

cutchie (n.) - clay pipe for smoking ganja.

Well he's standing next to a mountain, chop it down with the edge of his hand.

Passing duchies is small potatoes to him. :o

"Pass the duchy on the right hand side, pass the duchy on the right hand side....."

It just doesn't have the same ring to it, huh?

Definitely would not have made the top ten.

19. Because
if it's in your right hand, you forget if you've hit it or not. So you hit it and take it out of your primary hand into your left (sorry, Lefties, no ill will meant to your handedness). That way, once you've been smoking a bit, you'll always know that if it's in your left hand, then it's time to pass it on.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

20. Well, everything is passed "on the left hand side"
Clockwise.

Card games, for example. Turns go clockwise, to the left.

And, just a friendly warning...

If I ever find out about you passing a dutchie, or anything, to the right hand side, I'm gonna...

Well, I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I wouldn't wanna be you when it happens.

So Dont Do It!

:P

22. The original song is by The Mighty Diamonds
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:58 PM by TroubleMan
and their version is "Pass the Koutchie," which was Jamaican slang for a joint.

The "Pass the Dutchie" is a remake by Musical Youth. The Dutchie is short for Dutch Masters, which is a cigar commonly split, emptied, and rolled into a joint.

The original is so much better than the remake -very mellow, and The Mighty Diamonds had great voices. For another good song by them try "Right Time."

(on edit) I think they're still performing. Here's their website:
