Postcards for our troops...

I got the idea from a thread that was started some time ago...what I would like to know is...if everyone would be interested in sending postcards with some type of DU design on it and say something like "Democratic-Underground.com Salutes you" on the front and sent them to random soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Then on the back you can write a personal message to any soldier...we can send them to the company commanders and have them distribute them out to the soldiers...

With the right wingers out there saying that because most of us democrats/liberals who don't support the war are undermining the troops mission and bringing down their morale...we can give them a good slap in the face if enough people send these cards out to our troops...I'm not saying that's the sole reason to do this...I think that our troops would get a kick out of them...

I think it would be a great thing to have these troops over there see how much we really do appreciate what they are doing and how proud of them we are...

I spoke to skinner about it and he said to start a thread to see how many people would be interested in participating...Ideas for the design and message are welcome...maybe some of our talented photoshoppers out there can come up with something...

I certainly support our troops.

I just don't support the asshole who sent them there, or the reasons for them being there.

But I support the individuals who are there!

And it's a great idea to let them know that, contrary to the anal discharge that comes from Rush's and Coulter's and others' mouths that liberals AREN'T troop-haters, but that we support them, think the world of them, and don't want any of them to be killed or injured, and would rather see them home with their families.

Please send your support and thoughts to a really good friend of mine who is not getting the kind of mail the rest of us have been getting. He has only recieved one letter since we left. He is a Trinidad native and loves R&B music. He does not read a lot but likes to listen to music. He also loves movies. He told me once that he likes old films. Not sure exactly which ones but I am sure he wont be disapointed. Thanks for thinking about him.

Any DU'ers out there want to come up with some photoshop ideas for the cards...I'll print them up...

I'll toss around a few designs this evening...

I am currently deployed to Iraq and have been here for seven months in which I have had limited communications with family and friends back home. Not too many family members no that I am here the few people that do know haven't been able to send anything this way. I would like to request anything that a person could send whether it be books (christian), magazines, letters, care packages. It's really nice to get a box here and there. Thank You.

What a wonderful idea. Some of the coolest letters we received were from some kind person that mailed it to "Any Serviceman or Servicewoman". They were always kind, encouraging, and made you feel like you were not forgotten on the home front. Plus they're a huge morale booster, and guys love writing back. I actually made a couple of good pen pals, and the letters don't even have to be long--just a hi, hope you're well, hope you're home soon.

To those of you that have done this, and to those of you that will, I salute you all.
