So I Used "Print Shop" To Make My Own Mother's Day Cards...
... is that too cheesy? They look okay, but obviously home made.

The price of cards is just OUTTA-SIGHT! I used to love Hallmark cards... but I gave up on them when ordinary everyday cards started hitting $3.99 and 4.99... then I switched to American Greetings and their prices are headed up in the same range too.

$4.99 for a pretty piece of cardstock and an envelope????

Do you think my Mom/s will mind? Will she think her son is cheap or will she smile with pride that she raised such a thrifty and resourceful son?

1. Cheap
REAL cheap. $4 for your mom is not a lot.

Both my moms will be receiving large vases of tulips too. The card is just... well... the-card.

3. I'd still get a real card
And this is from someone who almost NEVER sends cards because I don't believe in them.

4. A homemade card comes from the heart.
A Hallmark card is, let's face it, a generic card. It's mass produced and appeals to millions.

But your card is just for your Mom/s.

I think that they will appreciate your card more.

Just my .02

6. I'm with you. A home made card shows time, thought & caring.
To me that means much more than money.

Sorry, cheap shot.

Seriously, it's cool that you took the time to make something for your Mom that only you would/could make.

14. While I DEARLY Loved My Apple //e... I'm Afraid It's Forever Gone
The Apple version of Print Shop was one of my favorites (despite the jagged fonts and lo-res graphics).

The newest versions of Print Shop are just as easy to use but the graphics have improved GREATLY.

-- Allen

P.S. I have an Apple ][ emulator that's really cool. I also located some floppy disk image files of old Beagle Bros software (as well as Print Shop). They all work perfectly.... EXCEPT that they can't save to "disk" nor can they see the printer. Oh well... it's still fun to visit the old workings and screens of those classic programs.

11. As a mother
I adore all the hand made cards my family has made for me. Everything from the little scribbles to the Print Shop cards they worked over. I think a hand made card would be appreciated not only for the originality of the maker but also for the time spent on the project. It makes one feel good to know someone cared enough to do that. I think you must be a wonderful son. It has more to do with time spent than money.

16. I'm Sure She Would Be More Impressed If I Was... Ten Years Old...
I think one of the reasons I'm feeling awkward about sending a home-made card is because I'm 43 years old. LOL.

You are welcome and I still think a hand made card, no matter how old you are is very sweet. I really do.

How, lets see how many times this post shows up!

13. A few years ago...
I made a card for my mother on the computer. I put a picture of her and me from when I was young and wrote some sort of poem. She loved it. We arent really a mushy type family, but she smiled and my brother and sisters were pissed...lol.

18. Sibling Competition Is Good!
Especially when you're the clear winner. (As the oldest child, I feel I have a certain responsibility to set a good example... by WINNING and by clearly being the FAVORITE CHILD of the three of us.)

Is that so wrong?

22. Okay
I've been on computers since the Eighties and was trained on WordPerfect -.01 (or whatever) back when it was an editing screen and not WYSIWYG, which, quite frankly I loved. Anyway, when computers got more sophisticated graphically and color printers were affordable I went berserk producing my own cards for friends and family. However, since I'm "that way" and artistic, I never stopped with just printing out the card. I always did gold leafing and/or collaging or some other thing, just to make it a bit more special. However, when computers became common household appliances and card programs were given free with every purchase it became too easy, so I quit. Now, whenever I travel, I go to card shops and stock up. I'm talking overseas travel, not just to another Hallmark in another mall in another city in another state. Anway, it's what works for me now. But, I did enjoy doing the craft thing when it was a challenge. And pre-Martha.

24. What A Great Idea... Non-Hallmark International Cards!!!
Because on more than ONE occasion, my mother has received IDENTICAL cards from her kids on Christmas or Mother's day. A card from a local card shop in Great Britain or Germany is definitely something that my other siblings won't have access to.

(BTW: My mom thinks it's adorable that we matched cards... saying that we know-her-so-well... I thought it was embarrassing that I wasn't more original.)

supporter too? Don't they mostly (exclusively?) support GOP candidates? Or is that my imagination?

27. Moms love cards, period
But the nice thing about homemade cards is that you can personalize. My mom kept every handmade card I gave her.
