I cried because I saw a tree being cut down today.
It was at the northeast corner of 15th & Independence in NW Washington, DC, quite near the Tidal Basin & the Washington Monument. It was in the middle of a bunch of trees. The National Park Service was cutting it apart with chain saws and had just started on the trunk.

And I wept. I couldn't help myself. I begged Mrs. V. to tell me it's because there's something wrong with the tree. She reassured me they wouldn't be cutting it down unless it was diseased.

Still.

My depression is easing up on me again (Mrs. V. might say it's galloping up). My antidepressant isn't strong enough in the current dose, but I can't take a higher does w/out getting terrible headaches. I'm seeing a doc tomorrow and will ask about alternatives.

In the meantime -- how do I live without falling apart at every little thing? I have absolutely no control over my emotions. Yesterday I wanted to kill the guy who almost hit the duck. Today I grieve for a tree. Reading havocmom's wonderful tribute to Louie brought more tears. What's next?

I'm not seeking answers. Just needed to unload in a safe place. Thanks.

2. I can understand why you would grieve for a tree.
If we thought about it, we'd probably all grieve with you. I grew up around a lot of trees in Maine, and they're some of my favorite things--beautiful, strong, silent, present in an unobtrusive way. There's good reason to love them.

5. There are some serious tree diseases out there right now. There
is an Oak disease that is really bad.

I'm sure they would not cut down the tree unless it was sick and there was a risk to other trees.

As for the depression, I would suggest Lexapro 20, I take it and it is FANTASTIC!

Check out Depressionforums.com IT is a great place to learn about the different meds and how people deal with their depression, and med side effects. It is an awesome community!

9. Lexapro didn't work for me, but thanks.
The best thing I've ever used is Effexor, but I had to quit because it chased my blood pressure sky high.

Thanks for the link.

6. Watch "The Two Towers" again......
Edited on Wed May-05-04 10:09 AM by Bridget Burke
If you don't have the DVD, rent it. If you haven't seen "Fellowship of the Ring" rent that, too, & watch it first.

Kick back & watch some trees kick butt!

(Lightweight therapy until you see the doctor. Do let us know how you're doing.)

12. I'm thinking of the apple trees in "The Wizard of Oz"
I always liked those trees, fighting back when their apples were plucked.

8. Well, I have to say
that I can totally understand your reactions. I too would cry while witnessing a tree being cut, and I would have the same feelings towards someone who almost hit a duck.

So, either I too need some meds, or you are just fine.

After all, trees and ducks, two of the most beautiful things this planet has to offer. They need people like us to care for them in this sometimes crazy crazy world.
