Fuck "Friends," the whole cast, NBC, the hype, the sponsors, . . .
and everyone else involved. I take pride in the fact that I have never watched that prime time swill.

1. I watched it....against my will...

I was with a hot girl and she wanted to watch it. Had to take one for the team.

Turned out to be well worth it.;)

8. Hear! Hear!
Could there have been any fewer black people on that show?

I enjoyed Friends for the first couple of seasons, but it got stale quickly (sort of like everything NBC has done the past 10 years). Had to move about three years back and couldn't take my TV with me. Never got around to getting another.

10. WASPS?
Edited on Fri May-07-04 05:10 AM by Dookus
Three characters were Jewish (It wasn't made clear, but I guessed Rachel Green was Jewish), and one was Italian. One, presumably, was of French origin. I think Chandler was probably a WASP.

4. Same here.........
I can honestly say I have never watched one minute of that "hit" show. Network garbage like that has never turned me on, but hey, that's just me. I'm sure others didn't miss one minute of it and are still normal, rational people. It's just a matter of choice.

I've enjoyed the show for 10 years. I enjoyed tonight's finale. It was one of the better ensemble comedies ever created for TV. Definitely one of the top 10.

12. There was a lot of funny bits during those ten seasons.
Edited on Fri May-07-04 06:02 AM by moof
and not that moof does not know why people see fit to diss stuff they say they never watched but this point seems odd.
There are tons of shows that people talk about on DU quite a bit
and these shows have never been on here at the moof hut at all.
Futurama, survivor/s, arrested developement, six feet under, haven't got a clue what any of these are about and not sure how dissing them would be accomplished. That said if you have really never seen friends
how do you know enough to diss it with such apparent distaste ?

Is it the title ? Do you not have friends and are jealous ?
The amount of pay they got ?

As far as sitcoms go it was right up there as dookus said, maybe not top ten all time but it was a little disappointing to realize that there are now no sitcomes that are going to be seen at the moof hut except for reruns of friends & sienfeld.

Well anyway sorry for all you that have so much disgust with so little safe outlet to vent it on that you go out of your way to dump on something that was so entertaining to so many.

To be clear moof loathes sports but to post on a thread about how some sport or other is in someway not a cup of moof tea ?
Hey peoples is peoples.

PS dookus this is not an offical stalk, Friends was never missed here till the triplets and the ending tonight made up for that a little.

14. Just To Take A Contrary View
I would take issue with you and dookus with regard to its place in the pantheon of comedies.

I think it was incredibly pedestrian, relying far too much on silly leers, double entendre, and mugging performances.

6 cartoon characters, reciting standard sitcom lines, doesn't qualify for my Top 10.

I don't care for the show, but there's lots of stuff that's real popular that doesn't flip my whistle, so i'm used to that. But, i think this show is way overrated, and simply benefitted from a fortuitous time slot on a night when the network got hot.

Good for the cast, but i don't see the talent (except for Lisa Kudrow) that you and dookus see.

It's not jealousy at all. Just a difference of opinion.

I watched that show about 5 times. It is nothing but a cheezy soap opera, there is not a shred of good comedy in it :)

Are there this many bile-filled posts lambasting the stupidity of football when the super bowl is hyped to DEATH?

For cryin out loud it's just a show. I fail to see what has everyone's heads spinning around.

It's mediocre to YOU
Not to the fans.

I'd say the *exact* same thing you just did about sports - all of them. Why are they on the news? Sports is NOT news, IMO. And the constant whoring of all the sports stars... who cares what shoes they wear?!

See? Difference of opinion. Is that still allowed?

22. Why am *I* angry?
I'm not the one saying 'fuck this fuck that blah blah blah' about a show I never even watched. Why are you asking me this question? :)

I never cared for Buffy or its spinoffs or Sex and The City or Survivor, but I never went out of my way to bash those shows because of all the incessant hype about them. I just don't understand what motivates such hatred for a silly show.

13. I am amazed at the popularity of this mediocre show
Edited on Fri May-07-04 10:58 AM by glarius
There I said it...Sorry, but this show can't come close to the real humour in shows like "Mary Tyler Moore" or "All in the Family" or "Barney Miller" or "Seinfeld", for example....These shows and others I could mention had subtlety along with great comedy writing and believable characters....I saw some of the early shows, but couldn't get into it, but I watched the final show last night, thinking perhaps it had improved....Sorry....I found it over-hyped and over the top, and couldn't have cared less who ended up with whom....The scene with Chandler and Monica arguing over whether they should give away one of the twins was not only not believable, it wasn't funny.....The scene would have been made funnier if Perry was believable as a new dad in a quandry, but I'm sorry he didn't come across to me....This is my opinion and I know I'm way in the minority about this popular show, although apparently many of you DUers don't care for it either....

That's what I heard this morning that each "Friend" earned in the course of the show. That's not counting the residuals, which will of course be immense.

29. sorry, but isn't that a bit like bob dole trashing "pulp fiction"....
...then him having to admit he hadn't seen it?

the "fuck friends" threads have officially gotten ridiculous.

yes, i have a severe dislike of most of what passes for comedy on television. yes, the last 3 to 4 years of "friends" was hit-and-miss at best.

but i will go to my grave defending the "chandler in a box" episode as one of the funnier american sitcom episodes of the last decade.

30. I agree with this one.
The show didn't interest me, either, but if it amused others, so be it and more power to it.

People say "fuck the NHL," and I want to see more of it. It's all a matter of taste.

If I were King for a Day, you'd have nothing but hockey and selected crime dramas on TV. No one else would likely be happy with that.

Television is the opium of the people, and it is some really bad dope.
