What song have you heard on the radio lately
that you never hear? I just heard the Ramones' _Pet Cemetery_ on the crappy "new music alternative" station, and I was shocked!

3. Strawberry Letter 23 by the Brothers Johnson
at least that's who I think did that song. LOVE it. It was on the Mesquite school radio station that plays awesome 70's tunes.

5. It's one of my very very favorites
I found the lyrics!

hello my love
i heard a kiss from you.
red magic satin playing near too
all through the morning rain i gaze
the sun doesn't shine
rainbows and waterfalls run though my mind.

in the garden i see
west purple showers, bells, and tea
orange birds and river cousins dressed in green.
pretty music i hear
so happy and loud
blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud

feel sunshine sparkle pink and blue
playgrounds will laugh if you try to ask
is it cool or is it cool
if you arrive and don't see me
i'm gonna be here with my baby
i'm free
flying in her arms
over the sea

feel sunshine yellow candy screens
see speakers of kite
with velvet roses digging freedom's flight
a present from you
strawberry letter 22
the music plays
i sit in for a few

And it seems Bonnie Raitt has covered this song. I'll hafta check that out!

9. On the radio?!
Wow! The only time I've ever heard that on the radio was back in the early 80's on a college station.

Cool!!!!

7. This alternative oldies format is strange
Part of me is creeped out by it, and a lot of the stuff they play is pretty bad, but I admit that it's kind of cool to hear the Sex Pistols and the Dead Kennedys on commercial FM radio.

8. Yes, exactly!
Violent Femmes, Pistols, DK ... nearly a year ago I remember hearing Velvet Underground's "Rock and Roll" on Sunday morning radio and jumping up and down over that... Who knew all these bands had to do was wait 10-20 years for airplay...

11. That's the beauty of satellite radio
because they aren't constrained by the tight playlists of terrestrial radio, and because there are so many channels, you are guaranteed at least one song like that per day!

12. I have DMX thru my cable box
and I find the same thing to be (mostly) true. They even have a bluegrass channel (even though a good New Yorker like myself shouldn't admit to liking bluegrass... have to keep up appearances, you know ;-)

13. John Cougar (pre-Mellencamp), "Ain't Even Done With The Night."
I heard it during one of my rare forays above 92 on the FM dial. While I drove home from work this evening, one of our local Top 40 stations played the Cougar song as part of its "Wayback Weekend" ('70s - '90s music from 6 p.m. Friday - Sunday night).
