They also made a point of making the Good, Happy Popular Kids real fucking morons (very easy to tell -- see the episode where Jodie makes a video about the supermarket strike, for example).

Have you ever seen Chasing Amy? Kevin Smith got a question about a comment Jason Lee's character made about lesbians. Kevin Smith pointed out that Jason Lee's character was the one who was ALWAYS wrong throughout the film. The same kind of thing goes for the popular kids (Kevin and Brittany) in Daria; they may be all pretty and happy, but they're also shallow and stupid, and you get that impression beaten into your head when Kevin goes into the supermarket (during the strike episode mentioned above, when the employees of the supermarket are picketing outside) for some Ho-Hos because his girlfriend wants some (Ho-Hos, I mean).

he gave us B&B, King of the Hill (and if you don't realize how good that show is, you're not paying attention), and quite possibly the funniest movie ever, Office Space.
