Confession: I was gay and I dated a member of the opposite sex!
Edited on Mon May-10-04 01:01 AM by PartyPooper
I didn't "come out" until I was in college. But, I dated one girl during most of high school. And, we spent the first 2 years of college together. I still have feelings for her to this day.

But, I have been "gay" for more than 30 years now. And, I never have forgotten the love I have for this one girl.

BTW, I've been in a long-term relationship with another man all of this time. And, we are very happy.

Should I burn the letters and the pictures? I'm serious!

What about you? Have you had a similar experience?

1. Keep the letters & pictures
I'm not even going to attempt to delve into the gay/straight part of this, but for heaven's sake, love is hard to come by!!! You had a friend and you loved her. At a time when everybody gets sex and friendship all mixed up. Keep the letters and pictures and thank whatever good thing in the universe that brought her to you. That's what I think.

2. i agree. i think you should keep the pics too.
i would. i keep all my pictures. although they are my past, they helped shape me into who i am today. i don't want to forget people, places, and events that give me so many good memories. i want to keep even the funky memories because they are reminders of the lessons i have learned. it's all good. :)

3. From a gay teenager to a gay man
I think that you should keep the pictures. They were a very unique time of your life and I wouldn't want to forget it. Do not erase them from your memory - they represent a part of who you are.

4. Do They Make You Happy or Sad?
If they bring back pleasant memories, keep them. It seems to me this isn't a matter of gay or straight, but of memories that are or aren't worth hanging on to.

5. I think you'll find most people of our generation...
...have had similar experiences. I've met very few women who have never dated a man when they were young. I had quite a few relationships with men up until the time I discovered myself when I was 19. And I even had a relationship in my late 20s with a man after a particularly hard breakup with a woman. That is the one I feel worst about. Although I entered the relationship honestly and let him know that I was gay, I really wasn't fair to him... and he was a good man.

Don't burn the letters and pics... it's part of who you were and nothing to be ashamed of. Someday they may be your only memory. :)
