Villeneuve to Williams? (F1)

Williams have played down suggestions that Jacques Villeneuve is poised to join their driver line-up for 2005.
Villeneuve, the Formula One champion in 1997, has been at the Paul Ricard circuit this week, and reports said that he was their to test for Williams.

The team said they hoped to have their driver line-up settled by August but denied Villeneuve was about to sign up.

"It is anticipated that the team may be in a position to confirm driver appointments by August."

Villeneuve has been out of Formula One since leaving BAR at the end of last season.

Juan Pablo Montoya is set to leave Williams for McLaren at the end of the season, while Ralf Schumacher could be on his way out too.

Frank is a wily old coot. I think JV going back to Williams would be a great idea! Another world championship team in the making?

I think JV's lost his nerve, and his single World Championship is the only thing keeping him in negotiations. He was consistently out-driven by Jensen Button last year, despite being a complete tool to the guy, in fact Button and Sato both had fastest laps faster than Barrichello.

JV is training harder than ever right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Williams for next year...Patrick Head holds him in high regard, he already has WDC under his belt, and his salary demands are likely to be lower (he already has more money than he knows what to do with)....

This season, on the other hand, sucks so far. But it'll get better sooner or later.

He only won the Indy 500 because Scott Goodyear had a brain fart on a late restart and won the F1 title because Williams canned Damon Hill. He hasn't done much since. If I were Frank Williams I'd keep Montoya or woo Mika Hakannin out of retirement
