HouseValues.com -- what is it?
There's a sign posted in my neighborhood advertising the site HouseValues.com. Is this a legit way to determine the value of your property? I fear that it's just a way to attract solicitations from real estate agents and other commercial interests. That's the last thing I want -- strangers ringing my doorbell and more junk mail.

Has anyone had experience with using this site? Thanks for your thoughts!

1. It is a site which like so many others collects names and information
to sell to realtors and lenders. I am a Realtor in Texas. I hate these sites. Buyers and sellers have no idea who gets their name, and how many people get your name, usually at least 3. Why would you not call someone directly yourself? Why would you go to an anonymous site, and give them your information for a service which you can obtain free by calling 1, 2 or 3 people yourself, that you can get through a referral from a friend or family member or co worker? Or look in your local Real estate Book and see if you can find someone whose method you like, and go from there. These people can't offer you any more than a realtor you contact directly can, and at least that way, you know who you are giving your information to. Let me know if there is any other information you need on this. Maybe a DUer is an agent in your community, although I believe I am in a minority in that field. The NAR ususally endorses republicans, which is why I never contribute to the PAC when they solicit.

2. Loathesomeshrub . . .
. . . thanks so much for your thoughts on this. I had a feeling that's what they were all about, as innocuous as it all seemed. I just didn't want to do anything to generate unwelcome solicitations or put out personal info who knows where.

It'll be a couple of years before I'm ready to sell my house, and I do know some realtors to contact when the time is right. I haven't contacted them yet because I don't want them bothering me in the meantime, which I know from experience will happen.

As for DUers who are in real estate locally -- I doubt it, unfortunately. This is a heavily Republican area, and one of the wealthiest in the U.S. I think I'd be safe in assuming that most if not all agents around here are Repugs.

You as a DUer are definitely a minority in that field -- at least you'd be here in this region!

Thanks again. :toast:
