Who else is trying to lose weight?
I'm failing miserably. I've never had to try to lose weight before. Maybe we could start a DUers weight loss club support group?

1. I'm in.
I have been trying for awhile now, to no avail. I have been eating healthy, but between work and taking care of the house, I have no time for actual exercise, except for my DU time, which I am not giving up. :)

I would be happy to be a part of a support group like that.

2. I'm still losing weight
April was a bad month for me. After losing 35lbs, I pretty much wrote off the month of April with 2 major trips and other stressful things. But I started again last Monday (8 days ago) and I'm at a net loss 30lbs.

Vacation is easy. I just have no junk food in the apartment. Low Carb & Vegetable heaven!

And Curse10 - I've met you - you look AWESOME!!!

7. I'm on South Beach (sort of) and I've dropped 20lbs in about a month.
Mrs. Richardo sez: "Your face is smaller!" :) (plus I've moved in two belt notches)

8. My mom is having success with South Beach
but I'm a vegetarian. Meat is icky. And all the popular diets are very meat heavy. Blech!

14. I've started gaining in the past year
because of my job - I'm sitting down so much. I've started jogging on weekends and two or three mornings a week, but the diet part is really hard for me. I don't think I could do the low carb thing, at least not the intense beginning part. :scared:

15. I am overweight ...
I have done nothing to stem my rising poundage ...

But NOW: things are different ...

I am within one week of opening a women's only gym ...

Im going to use that gym myself ... (after hours, of course) ...

Let me say this: Diet is good, but exercize is FAR more important ...

Why ? ... because by allowing our muscles to atrophy, we deny the body the ability to USE the excess calories ingested, which will instead become 'stored' as fat ...

Our 'resting' metabolic rate, the BMR, (Basal Metabolic Rate) decreases as we lose lean muscle tissue ... The BMR defines the energy required to power our resting system ... when our muscles become 'undersized' through atrophy, they do NOT use the nutrients present in our system .... By increasing our lean muscle mass: we increase the utilization of available nutrition that flows through our system, leaving less caloric content to go to fat storage ...

Furthermore: lean muscle development means a leaner body profile .... not only do lean muscles eat up more calories, but they LOOK better too .... Lean muscle development can also help reverse pre-diabetic hyperglycemia, by better utilizing available glycogenic compounds in the bloodstream ...

Exercize brings manifold benefits that diet alone cannot ever establish ....

Humans have existed for tens of thousands of years as lean animals ... they do not do well as UNlean animals ...

I intend to use the South Beach approach, as well as regular resistance-training to build lean muscle mass ...

I would love to keep in touch with ya's to see how things go ....

16. I am. But I try to rationalize the extra weight by telling myself...
that there's more of me for Doug to love. Which means that if I get to the size of a sumo wrestler, Doug won't be able to contain his lust. :-)

17. Forget 'low-carb.' It's all about the calories.
When you take in more calories than you lose, you gain weight.

When you take in fewer calories than you lose, you lose weight.

It sounds simple...because it is.

18. Lost 15 lbs since February
Would like to lose 25-30 more. I've been following Weight Watchers's points system and it's worked pretty well. I can eat what I like, just less of it.
