Poll question: Who is the best economic philosopher of all time?
I was initially going to vote for Smith, but in retrospect am going with Marx. Not only was he an economic philosopher, he was also an astute observer of history (and I happen to agree with his dialectical view of history).

Smith comes in a close second, as he put forth the groundwork for modern economy.

There are other greats I've included as well. I'd like to hear your opinions.

5. Robert Reich seriously suggested Dr. Seuss as one of the greats
...based on "The Sneeches".

Betcha the lurking freepers won't understand that some peoples' votes for Marx doesn't mean that they admired Marxist-Leninist politics. (Hey, freep -- It's "Who is the best economic philosopher...", not "Who is the philosopher who lent his name to the best political system", ya morans. We're not Marxists.)

6. Good point
Didn't Marx himself claim "I am not a Marxist!"? That is what I've heard anyway...

He once said that computer programming should be left to the young, as it required the stamina of youth.
Fuck Reich!

Hey, Reich, I am working on a computer program right now...and I am in my forties!

8. C.H. Douglas. Social Credit.
No one really knows a damn thing about him, but his theory is the only one that makes mathematical sense. The rest all break down in practice.

Of course, his theory is unlikely to ever be put into real practice (Alberta was not a good test case) because too many sectors of the political-legislative government are tied tightly to the banking system.

Don't know what I'm talking about?

Try here.

I was introduced to the theory via Robert Heinlein's For Us, The Living. It's a decent, easy intro.

No, I will not explain this to Objectivists. If you can slog your way through her spewings, you can manage this. IMO, Both Douglas and Heinlein are better writers.
