It cost like 250 million to make...

What would be considered a good opening night, or weekend for such a movie?

1. googled this
Whatever you think about Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," it's clear that everything Hollywood insiders knew was wrong. After a massive opening on Ash Wednesday last week—the film took in more than $26 million that day...

6. Box Office Prophets
is a pretty good site to check out if you want to know what's going on with a particular film.

And you can get a joke by holding the cursor over any picture on the website.

7. Seems pretty good
but Troy has to have a lot of staying power to recoup the investment. It has to become this year's Pirates of the Carribean, IOW.

If they take in 40-60 mil this weekend, they'll be in good shape.

11. In a word, no
A good rough estimate--a film can be expected to do three times whatever it's opening week is. If opening week is $50M, the total box would be $150M, of which the studio would take home ±$75M. Not a good return on a $250M investment.

14. I thought it was pretty good....
... It can't live up to the original story but for a short version where Gods are removed its not bad.

16. Yeah
they don't start out from the beginning. The first time you see Paris he is already a prince of Troy (no contest between goddesses or anything). They take a lot of liberties with the story but for someone who is ignorant of the real story it is not bad.

17. Sucked
OK if you like scenes of Pitt's glistening muscles.
Daliogue limp.
Jerky pacing.
I was looking for a real summer popcorn movie. The battle scenes didn't have the energy of Lord of the Rings for example.
Orlando Bloom wouldn't have won the love of the Face that launched a 1,000 ships, but he's still shooting arrows well.

Achilles (Pitt) had a bit of depth.

OK movie - but not the $200 million duster I expected.

I didn't expect a lot of it, so maybe that's why I was disappointed when it didn't deliver.

Audience laughed a few times when they weren't meant to.
FULL House though.
