The Wit and Wisom of Archie Bunker
TO SAMMY DAVIS, JR: I know you couldn't help the colored part; but whatever made you turn jew?

ARCHIE: "Pregnant" makes it sound like you done something.
MIKE: We did!

ARCHIE: Nice girls ain't "pregnant"; they're "expecting," or "in a family way."
MIKE: How do you feel about "knocked up?"

MIKE: There's no need to snigger.
ARCHIE: Don't you know the delicate word for that is "snegro?"

ARCHIE: First thing in the morning, I gotta find me a good Jew lawyer.
MIKE: Why does he have to be a Jewish lawyer?
ARCHIE: Because if I'm gonna sue an Ay-rab, I want to get a guy that's full of hate!

GLORIA: What am I supposed to do? Look in the Yellow Pages under "Jewish Lawyers?"
ARCHIE: No, no, no! That'll take too long.

MIKE: You know, Archie, I don't think there's one thing about me that you agree with.
ARCHIE: I agree with that.

ARCHIE: Eleanor Roosevelt discovered the coloreds in this country; we never knew they was there!

1. I miss that show
In the world of entertainment, especially sitcom TV entertainment, that's one of the few superlative shows that had excellent acting, writing, and subject matter. A true work of art.

snegro - brilliant!!

4. First time around, I loved it for it's basic comedic value.....
I was too young to understand the social commentary. When I have watched the reruns as an adult, I am always amazed at how much they managed to teach during that period of time.

5. It was great and----
we got a kick out of it even if it often pointed out things we seemed to think to near to our selfs. I think it was a take off of a show from the Brits. They can be really some thing else in their wit.

7. Any favorite episodes?
I loved the one where Archie and George Jefferson team up to try and keep the Puerto Rican family out of the neighborhood.

13. Most eps from seasons 1-5 were great...
With the remaining seasons reduced to mere sweeps week episodes transcending the 'typical sitcom' routine...

But one episode that stuck out is where the Bunkers were scoped out by anti-semitics. After 9/11, it reminded me of what's going on today... the episode is also unique in having a very downbeat ending...

was Jewish...

Archie: he can't be a Jew because they don't eat ham...ever hear of a JEW named cunningHAM?

(the above is based on memory so I hope I got it right.)

9. I LOVE All in the Family...it so would not get on TV
now. People are WAY too sensitive.

Of course it jumped the shark once Mike and Gloria had the kid..well there was the baptism episode that was good but for the most part the episodes after that sucked.

15. More ALL IN THE FAMILY quotables
Edited on Sun May-16-04 02:12 PM by NightTrain
GEORGE JEFFERSON (on his future daughter-in-law): One of her parents is the wrong color.
ARCHIE: I know, but her father's white!

ARCHIE (to Edith, angrily): Next time you wanna do something together, do it by yourself!

EDITH (to Gloria): Whenever your father and I have a fight, one of us always says, "I'm sorry." And Archie always says, "That's all right, Edith."

ARCHIE: Meathead, why don't you go take a flying leap into the middle of Lake Polack?

ARCHIE (to his new neighbors, happily): Hey, you're white!
IRENE LORENZO: Do we get points for that?

ARCHIE (to Edith, annoyed): Can't you eat without chewing?

ARCHIE: Aw geez, those Catholic priests sprinkling incest all over the place.

EDITH'S COUSIN MAUDE: Know what I like about you, Archie?
ARCHIE: What?
MAUDE: Nothing.

ARCHIE: This country was ruined by Franklin Delano Roosevelt!
MAUDE: You're fat.

ARCHIE: Nixon didn't lie! He forgot to tell the truth.
