Best new reality show: MTv's "Newlyweds with Jessica and Nick"
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 11:38 AM by LynneSin
First, I have to admit I've a Real World addict for years which is how I stumbled upon Newlyweds. Most of the time I'm doing work on my computer while I watch 'Real World' and then I usually go to bed around 10:30.

But I was doing some stuff and too lazy to find the remote. I figured "Newlyweds" would be puff piece since it was talking about the marriage of bubblegum popstars Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees (they've been married about a year).

This couple rivals the Osbornes and much much more entertaining than the Osborne's past season.

It seems Ms. Simpson is a SLOB!!! And her husband Nick Lachey is cheap. This show had me enthralled watching the union of a lazy slob and a cheap bastard and the show was funny as hell!

Seems Jessica Simpson went from her mother picking up after her to maids picking up after her since she was only 14 when she first hit the concert tour. After they got married and bought their new house, her husband Nick Lachey (of boyband 98 degrees) was too cheap to not only hire help to clean up the house but to move all his stuff from his old house to their new house.

So there in the front foyer is a MASSIVE pile of laundry and Jessica has no clue how to do laundry. Her and Nick are kinda give each other the cold shoulder about the whole 'hiring a housecleaner' debate. And in a few days, especially after the house was clutter with all the stuff Nick moved in from his own home AND the fact that Jessica has no desire to houseclean - it looked like a cross between a war-zone and a house after a hurricane had gone through.

It's cheezy entertainment and yet somehow I was hooked.

Next week: Jessica shows her jealous side when Nick auditions hot female dancers for his next video!!!

3. Hey, I normally don't watch that crap
I was just a big fan of "Real World" since it first came out over a decade ago well before the world of Reality TV became the norm.

I really didn't plan on watching it - honestly!!!!

I was just too lazy to change the channel - but this one fascinated me!

4. Why are you justifying it?
If you enjoy it: Watch it. Listen to it. Eat it. Drink it. Do it.

7. Remember, the "yellers" are in a very vocal minority...
... I don't care too much for reality TV but, like everything, it's market driven. When we tire of it, it will go away.

But I certainly won't order anyone not to watch something simply because that something's existance annoys me.

13. Get over it
Sometimes I enjoy watching TV after a strenuous day of work and using my brain too much.

I find it interesting.

Deal with it!

24. Thank you RJ
Hey, I know reality shows in general pretty much suck.

I'll be honest, I was hurt by all of this that somehow I was to blame because of the horrible TV shows available out there.

Personally, I'll watch the show again next week. It wasn't anything new and different, it requires the IQ somewhere around that of an ant (but still at the same level of Bush's) and it was amusing to see how screwed up these 2 people are. I was laughing my ass off watching that show and after a rough day at work - it was a much needed laugh!

If you don't like it - there's that little ignore sign next to my name. I'm not offended if folks put me on ignore cause they can't deal with my TV choices

26. You should feel free to watch what ever you want.
LynneSin - Don't justify your TV choices to anyone, ever! And thanks for the tip - I may just tune in to Nick and Jessica next time it's on! We need brain candy - there's plenty of PBS to watch too, for those who are so inclined.

... perhaps Jessica will tire of his cheapness and have an affair with a Backstreet Boy... then we can watch boy band battles.

10. I think the housekeeper uncharged
The mess that place was in and the pile of laundry???!!!

She should have charged $120/hour - not $20/hour for 6 hours

... and you're being way to nice about it. Good thing they're a small minority. I kind of like the thought of these types pouting and stomping their feet because someone else likes something they don't.

22. depends on the degree of eye-candy
they are both more famous for being attractive than for being terrific singers or actors. I suppose if MTV's shows us enough of Nick's butt and Jessica's bust they'll get fairly decent cable ratings. If MTV only shows their dirty laundry, literally, then I don't see this program lasting more than a week or two.

I suppose watching this Ken 'n Barbie couple fornicate beats watching wrestling or WAR!

25. Well, to the degree
they mirror the experiences of young first year marrieds, the show will probably work.

I mean, who hasn't had the slob/neatnick debate with a lover?

27. So I turn my radio on this morning to Howard Stern (don't ask...I don't
know how the dial got set there) and they are talking about Nick and Jessica. It seems that she's not only lazy but dumb in the blondest since of the word. She had a package of Chicken of the Sea tuna and asked her hubby if it were fish or chicken--the "chicken" in the brand name confused her. Nick could hardly veil his disgust according to Stern. Wonder how long this marriage is going to last?

31. She should have married Bush Sr.
I remember when he was surprised at grocery stores using barcode scanners.

They could entertain each other by living on a welfare recipient's food stamp allotment for a week.

where little Jessica was questioning the chicken content of "Chicken of the Sea" tuna.

I am crapping you negative.
