I LOVE New York!
Hey kids,

Just got home a bit ago from a fantastic trip to NYC. Stayed at the Melrose at 63rd and Lex (Upper East Side ...... fa! fa! fa!)

Hung out in the Village on Thursday night and had wonderful Cuban food. Went downtown on Friday and cried my eyes out at Ground Zero and at Battery Park to see the globe from WTC.

Got tickets to see "Boy From Oz" for friday night. If any of you want to see a show, go to the 1/2 off ticket place downtown. Our seats weren't together, but when Hugh Jackson takes that stage ..... fugitabout! What a wonderful show.

Had dinner in the East Village last night and got back to hotel just in time to avoid a fantastic lightning storm.

AND saw Ed Kotch in SoHo.

To my fellow DU'ers in New York City ....... I love your city! :loveya:

PS. I'm loving these newest poll numbers for W!!!

3. Hey Ronny!
Glad you had a great time in the great city.

I'd love to see the "Boy From OZ" so I'm a tad jealous, I must say.

But you should have gone and stepped on Ed Koch's toes or something, jerk that he is.
Cannot stand that guy.

5. Go see it!
I'm spoiled now. This was my first Broadway show (in New York). Get the half price tickets, there is not a bad seat in the house. We paid $36 for seats. It's well worth it.

4. Who doesn't love NYC?
I've never stayed there overnight, I was jet-lagged on all my visits - but still: WOW. It is THE city, all others are upstarts.

6. I LOVED The Boy From Oz!
Hugh Jackman was phenomenal! I've got tickets to see it again next week - I just had to see him one more time. He really is amazing!

I got to see Peter Allen perform at Radio City in the early 80s and Jackman does an awesome job of capturing his magic. Even if you're not familiar with Allen, it's worth the money to see Jackman - a performance like this doesn't happen very often. And if a great performance isn't enough ... you've got Jackman in tight pants, shaking his butt for 2 hours ... how can you go wrong? :loveya:

Ok ... I'm done gushing now. :)

10. I was in tears
There was this wonderful lady sitting behind me that had seen Peter Allen and she said that Hugh catupred his energy.

What a wonderful show.

I used to live in Queens and I'm hoping one day I can move back there. But Ronny, you realize you couldn't possibly go there without hitting one of the pizzerias. Broadway, at least when I was a kid, had some real captivating stuff there... I see it's still pretty good. How much were the tickets?

BTW, Ground Zero is cleaned up now, compared to when I saw it. I detoured there in December 2001 and it made me angry. I 10-story mound of rubble that covered I don't know how many acres.... but the thing that I found real disturbing was all the vendors near the observer's platform (which was just built the day I was there), hawking NYPD merch. Trying to profit off the 3000 corpses 5 blocks down the street. I even got into an argument with my father after he bought one of those caps....

One other thing: I'm hoping you didn't try driving :scared:

12. Tickets and stuff
We got half price tix and they were $36 each.

Driving? Oh my god. LA is bad enought, I would never drive in the city. Gotta say that I LOVE me some NYC cab drivers. It's an E Ticket ride.

13. This Southern girl loves NYC
Edited on Sun May-16-04 09:07 PM by scmirage
I get to go about once a year on business. I'd always wanted to go to NYC but never made it until about four years ago. It was love at first sight. I've explored almost every part of the city as this point, and I love it all.

How come you didn't tell any of us you was coming? Would have been fun to hang out a bit, share a meal, break some bread.

But I'm glad you had a great time!
