I need suggestions on carpet cleaning
My in-laws are coming over for the holiday and my beige carpets are filthy.

Can someone suggest a good carpet cleaner that you can use with your vacuum cleaner. My car is in the shop right now and a carpet cleaning machine would be impossible to get home.

3. Take a cab and rent a decent steam cleaner at the local
big home store. Buy twice as much cleaner as you think you will need. Get some extra foil just in case you run out for the legs of the furniture to sit on. There is no other choice. You can't clean a carpet without a steam cleaner.

4. Try to find something called "Incredible!"
Edited on Mon May-17-04 08:29 PM by fudge stripe cookays
It comes in a white plastic bottle with red and blue printing and a squirt top.

I was amazed at how well this stuff worked when we had a prolifically barfing cat who kept urping on my sky blue rug.

If you've got a lot of area to cover, I'd buy quite a few bottles, and dilute them with a bit of water in a bucket. Use a mop to soak it in and scrub a bit by mopping the carpet. Buy a scrub brush and use it full strength for the really tough areas.

Then vacuum. Repeat if you need to.

I buy this stuff at Tom Thumb grocery in Texas. I'm not sure where you are, but it kicks butt!

6. It's mostly cat vomit stains
Some of the stains are from Pop, coffee and dirt that has been tracked in from the outside.

8. OxyClean works on all of my beige carpet spots...
Including Cat Gack!!

The stuff is unbelievable. Can mix it from the powder, but it's kind of a hassle, so I've switched to their pre-mixed bottles for carpet stains.

I swear by this stuff, including using the powder in the laundry, say hello to white socks again.

Also, if you do go for a carpet machine, add OxyClean powder to the cleaning solution. I haven't had to try that yet, but my brother in law says it works great, much better than the cleaning machine solution alone.

Good luck. Or, worst case, get some new flooring....

9. The truck mounted steam cleaner work much better
Edited on Mon May-17-04 09:01 PM by cally
although they are expensive. I have white carpets that are usually brownish. They made them sparkling white and got out all the stains. I need to do it again but I'm waiting until Fall.

You can rent the other type of carpet cleaners from most grocery stores and many drug stores.

edited for grammar--sigh

10. Renting a rug doctor rocks!
I used to live in a party house in college and we would host keggers at least once a week. Every month or so we would rent a rug doctor and clean the carpets.... they became beige again! and again and again..

we never could get those kind of results with a regular cleaner...

It would be worth it just to RENT a car and bring the rug dr home...I'm serious. That's how much faith I have in them :)

11. I wish I had hardwood floors right now
But I don't, so I will take your suggestions and try to clean the carpets myself.
