2. I used to love paypal...
Until someone deducted $500 from my account without my knowledge or authorization...
After I proved it to them and stopped payment from my bank, they said they were able to recover $4.22, leaving me liable for the remaining $495.
They are still trying to go after me for the money..
Now I avoid them like the plague...

4. Your Paypal account or your bank account?
Edited on Mon May-17-04 10:46 PM by DBoon
Slashdot has a running discussion of Paypal's refusal to work with Freenet. Included in the comments are stories from folks whose bank accounts were forzen by Paypal.

5. Paypal...
The money was taken from my bank account to cover a fraudulent paypal transaction.
I noticed it right away and called the bank first, and then paypal to rectify the issue...
I have found them to be inflexible and evil. Even if you are in the right...
Argh! I just went and looked at my last correspondence with them...
:grr:

7. De regulation in action!
When you allow a coporation like Paypal to provide banking services while not requiring them to follow banking regulations, you unleash the evil demons of capitalism.

There is a very good reason why banking is so heavily regulated by the government. Many Paypal customers are finding this out the hard way.

8. I agree.
Funny thing is...
I was getting ready to cancel the account.
I rarely used it and had read many bad things about it.

I was just a bit too late...
:(

12. paypal has been very good to me
..and it gives people too small to otherwise accept a credit cards a way to do so. It increased my income considerably when I was using it. I'm not selling right now, but when I do, I will be using paypal again. If you can only accept cash, check, or money order, you give up 80 to 90 percent of your sales, based on my numbers.

Yes, they screw up sometimes. But in my experience they fixed it quickly. I keep good records and have proof of my claims though. To be honest, don't think I've had a screw-up for about 3 years now. They actually screwed up a lot more when the service was free, although I would prefer free and dealing with the occasional screw-up, as I have more time than money.
