in Dallas. you'll have an appointment time, along with a room full of other people in your time as well. they'll probably have it at a hotel somewhere, in the ballroom or some other meeting room (i want to say there were probably 100 people in my group). you'll hear some junior producer-type person say howdy, blah blah blah, and eventually, you'll all take a test...you'll have an answer sheet with (i think i remember this right) 50 questions, 25 on each side, with a blank line next to the number. it's a fill-in-the-blank test. alex asks the question on a video monitor...you have a very short time to answer before he moves on to the next question. random questions, no sort of rhyme or reason to the order of questions.
once you're done with the test, they collect the papers, and some unlucky souls go into another room to grade them...while you're hanging out waiting for the results, they allow the test-takers to ask questions about the show, etc. (one of the...clue crew?...it's been a while...was there, people got all starry-eyed). when the test grades came back, only about four people passed a certain mark, which had to be pretty high b/c i didn't make it and i knew all but about 5 or 6 of the questions.
those of us who didn't "pass" were thanked for trying out, and dismissed...the people who passed moved to the next stage, and were going to play a mock game...no idea what happened after that point. the whole thing took about an hour or so, if i recall. dress appropriately, b/c you may get to the "mock game" stage...check the invite notice for what to wear.
good luck to you.
funny story...driving from houston to dallas for the tryout, i got pulled over, the cop asked why i was going to dallas and i said "i'm going to try out for jeopardy." i was outside the car when i said that, and it was obvious the cop didn't believe me, especially when he went around to my wife's side of the car and asked the same question...the look on his face when my wife said "we're going to dallas b/c my husband is trying out for jeopardy" was priceless. he gave me a warning and said good luck. :-)
