Poll question: Favorite song by ARETHA FRANKLIN
Edited on Tue May-18-04 09:43 PM by undisclosedlocation
I'd swear I'd done a poll on her already, but a search turned nothing up. If there's been one lately, feel free to
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
sock it to me
(just a little bit)

Note on edit: I know what it looks like, but "Sisters Are Doin` It For Themselves (w/Eurythmics)" doesn't make this a sex thread!:P

3. I love most, if not all of her classics.
However, there are two of her lesser known classics that stand out for me: "Angel" (1974, produced by Quincy Jones) and "Jump To It" (1982, produced by Luther Vandross).

Also, her AMAZING GRACE (1972) is, IMHO, the greatest gospel album ever recorded.

4. That duet with George Michael was the low point of Aretha's career.
Why in the world would you include it?

8. I love Aretha Franklin
The best present my husband ever gave me was taking me to Chicago to see Aretha Franklin live.

I hate to fly. I'll do almost anything to avoid it. At the same time, if we managed to get some tickets to see her again, I would get on a plane tomorrow.

17. Are You Driving Natalie Cole's "Pink Cadillac"?
-- Allen

I like Natalie's version better than Bruce's.

11. A Deeper Love (Pride)
(Pride) a deeper love
(Pride) a deeper love
Woah woah woah woah
(Pride) a deeper love
(Pride) a deeper love
(Pride) a deeper love
Woah woah woah woah

People let me tell you I work hard every day
I get up out of bed, I put on my clothes
'Cause I've got bills to pay
Now it ain't easy but I don't need no help
I've got a strong will to survive
I've got a deeper love, deeper love
Deeper love inside and I call it

Pride (a deeper love)
...

this is new-ish, but it is HOT

16. You sure that's not Motley Crue?
Not in the Aretha lyrics: http://www.bluesforpeace.com/lyrics/dr-feelgood.htm (Looklook! A lyrics site without popups! It'll never last.)

Terrific song, though, if you mean Aretha's.

15. the only answer is "Ain't No Way"
Right on Leilani! I'm 26 years old and whiter than a damn ghost, and even I know that "Ain't No Way" is one of the most beautiful things man has contributed to recorded sound. I first heard it on an old school (from before even the dawn of the expression "old school" itself) R&B mix my Dad made me off his records, that had the scratches and everything, but there are nearly no equals. Only "What's Going On," "When a Man Loves a Woman," some Ray Charles stuff, and some tracks from Phil Spector's girl groups (if you count that as old schol R&B) can compare. If any of you have never heard "Ain't No Way," go buy it before you do anything else, preferably on vinyl.
