Is there a more decent human being than David Letterman?
Of course not.

Just now, before the first commercial, he gave a heartfelt testimonial to the late Tony Randall. Then showed a short montage of Tony Randall appearances accompanied by Bob Dylan's "Forever Young." All before the first commercial. Not stuffed in the middle of things or before the end credits. Right at the beginning when jokes and skits are de rigeur.

What a class act!

1. Randall's top ten list...
When he had his first kid at age 78, he did a top 10 for David.

2. I agree
There's been so many times, especially in the last several years, where Dave has talked to someone about a difficult experience or given a thoughtful tribute to someone where he's handled it perfectly.

I :loveya: Dave.

3. I wanted to watch tonight's show just to see how Dave would
handle Tony's passing because I knew they were close. But dammit I'm pist. I fell asleep on the couch and just woke up about a half hour ago. Thanks for the info though.

4. Tony Randall on Bush & Cheney
this was in the obituary in the Seattle PI today:

"In September, during a speech to the National Funeral Directors Association, Randall joked about how he envisioned his own ceremony: President Bush and Vice President Cheney would show up to pay their respects, but they'd be turned away because his family knows he didn't like them."

5. Nothing but class
After his talk there was a minute or so video collection of many of Tony's appearances over the years at the NBC and CBS letterman shows.

Nice of the Bastards at NBC to let Dave have the clips to use.
