4. I know...jeez.
Do you need to lie down?

Sorry about that, J_____.

Anyhow, RIP Elvin......the strongest Jazz drummer to have ever lived, the only man who could match Coltrane lick for lick, roll for roll, Rasheid Ali be damned.

6. Nooooooo
I met him once, long ago. I also met one of his brothers. I don't think it was Thad but it might have been since a friend of mine played with Thad when he was with Mel Lewis. Ahh, the world has lost one very creative drummer and one very amazing musician.

7. Saw him several times.
Last time was at the Detroit Jazz Festival. His band was still out at the airport so he entertained us with a 35 m,inute drum solo while we waited for the rest of his group to arrive. Absolutely riveting performance.

There's a huge void in the world of jazz now.

11. that's who I couldn't think of on the jazz instrumentalist thread
the other day! Too many of these folks are gone. It is very sad. I hope there are some younger folks coming up to at least fill some of the void.

14. A great inspiration
A great album to check out is "Speak No Evil" by Wayne Shorter: Elvin, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard.
