Should we, at DU be a little more sensitive and postive or is one
of the purposes for us to express our dark sides/negativity too? Yesterday, I posted a reminder about the gas boycott for the day (today). I took offense to some of the comments -in essence saying it's not REALLY a boycott (I know but I'm trying to make a point, trying to do SOMETHING),others saying it's stupid, someone chastising me for "passing along bogus (I think that's the word this person used but I don't remember)information," - well, you get the drift. I expressed my hurt feelings and several of you were very supportive and sweet - thanks :-). Then, I read that WillBowden is having a really nice moment with his critters and expressing feeling good - and I'll be darned if people don't start blasting him too in essence saying "how dare you feel good with all that's wrong with the world." (not the exact words) and once again, not everyone. What is people's take on this? p.s. WillBowden, I hope that you have MANY, MANY happy moments in your life and I think it's great that you notice them when they happen :-)- it raises the whole vibrataion of the planet and that in itself is doing something to help.

1. All humans have a dark and negative side
But please don't confuse disagreement with an issue with dark/negative energy. We can't all agree on everything, and there's nothing wrong with that.

2. God forbid anyone should find some small joy for himself in this
befucked world. People blasted Will for his lovely pets post this morning? Assholes.

13. Then what's the lead post about?

Never mind, I just read the rest of the thread. Sigh. All I can say is, I thought I was overly sensitive.

3. As much as DU is a cross section of our population,
Edited on Wed May-19-04 12:38 PM by kmla
(albeit a more liberal/progressive thinking one), you will have all of the types of people that you will encounter in the general population. Such as:

nice people
jerks
sports fans
pessimists
optimists
yak lovers
vegans
rude bastards
smartasses (that would be my classification:))
feminists
dreamers
chearleader types
enablers
wet blankets
people with a way with words
people with bad social skills

So, what am I saying? Don't let it get to ya. People are people. You can't really change them. And don't take what they say to you personally, because chances are, they don't know YOU - they only know an anonymous person on the other end of their internet connection.

Just let the good comments soak in, and let the bad ones roll off...

And have a great day regardless. :)

Edited - poopy spelling.

6. Now, now. No one said yak loving is wrong...
... unless you go about it the wrong way. Then it is sick.

7. Zenlefty, yes they did...yesterday
someone (AND I SAID IT WASN'T THE EXACT WORDS ALREADY - GEEZ!!)was negative (I admit, I don't remember who but WillBowden even commented on it)about his nice moment post...I don't have time to find the specific quote but I take issue with you stating that what I said was incorrect because it wasn't.

8. Perhaps I stand corrected, but...
I just read his nice moment post and didn't see one negative post.

Does he have more than one nice moment post? Well, that jerk doesn't deserve two nice moments!! I'll flame him myself!!! :+

However, If I am I won't admit it. I'll blame somebody else. :D

10. hey peace
It is healthy to express both sides of our nature. Arguments are bound/happen here all the time.

14. I don't think we're particularly negative.
It's never bothered me, anyway. I can take whatever's out there.

15. Thank you kindly...
I'll admit that when I read the message I was a bit put out by it but I can understand what the poster meant. For some it's just a bit harder to enjoy the simple pleasures of life knowing that so many bad things are out there.
