I was cleaning the cupboards. We got it on our wedding day quite a few years ago, and it is still really full. That's because we drink soooo much. (sarc) Guess I really need to make some Irish coffee soon.

1. You could clean your stovetop with it.
(don't mind me -- when it comes to Irish, I'm more of a Jameson/Middleton man)

7. Midleton, well yeah!
but Jameson is just low-class catholic swill . . .

(Unless there's no Bushmill's and no Tully, in which case Jameson works just fine.)

13. I believe (could be wrong)...
...Jameson makes Middleton.

And once you get above the bottom-shelf whiskeys (of which Bushmill's is, I agree, the superior product), Jameson shines.

Jam. 1780 is better than Black Bush.
Jameson Gold is one of the finest whiskies in the world, and Bushmill's has nothing to compare.

14. they're all made by the same (French) company now.
The premium Jameson labels are very good. Black Bush is awful, IMHO. Bushmills 1608 is outstanding (though near imposible to find at least around here), as is their 12-year-old single malt.

Midleton is not a Jameson label. It is also $100 a bottle. I have one on the shelf that is only missing about two glasses worth. Not enough truly special occasions in my life, I guess!

Ever tried Red Breast?

Never tried Red Breast.

I haven't had 1608, but I just don't much care for that prod swill. ;)

17. Red Breast is pretty good
mild, but with a rich, smoky flavor.

Why an atheist pacifist like me would get into religious wars over Irish whiskey is a wonder.

18. Of course, this not-quite-pacifist, but still pretty peace-loving agnostic
...is Irish Catholic by heritage.

So Bushmills can fuck off. :D

21. one of my best friends is a Jameson guy--"catholic swill"
My Bushmills is "protestant pisswater."

We write songs together and sometimes do so under the influence. When we hit a liquor store together, it makes their night!

Whatever flavor you want, I'm buying!

:toast:

At least you're not a scotch drinker!

:toast: :toast: :toast:

In fact, it's Bushmills:30 right now!

22. I'm a big-time Scotch drinker...
...That's no reason to shelve the Irish.

Single malts are a wholly different breed, to be drunk under wholly different conditions.

10. Sacrelige!
Bushmills is the only Irish worthy of the name. I wouldn't use Jameson to even polish my (very stylish) boots with.

Send that old bottle to me. DH and I would drink it in your honor.

19. well that is nice to know
didn't know this would turn into a battle of the Irish whiskey Leviathans, although I should have known. I mean, it was a wedding present and I'm not a whiskey snob, like some appear to be. I mean I was thinking of putting it in coffee, so that tells you how much of aWhiskey drinker I am! ;)
