7. *sigh*
I read these posts and decided to peek in there for myself. Anyway I couldn't make it past the main door after the first two headlines were "Why Defend Marriage" and then a recipe for "Pat Robertson's Age Defying Pancakes". I thought I took a wrong turn into the National Enquirer for a minute. Can't do it.

6. Nope. And looking forward to hell. That's where all the cool cats hang.
Socrates, Hypatia, Erasmus, Spinoza, Darwin, Sagan, and best of all, Douglas Adams.

Besides, who'd WANT to be washed in the blood of a lamb? I much prefer nice, clean water and some Yardley's soap.

10. That's cool! I had a philosophy teacher who used to say he would rather
spend eternity in hell with the likes of Plato, Aristotle, Locke, Hobbs etc than to spend one minute in heaven with Billy Graham. I loved that guy!

8. Please ask bout their take on the 'Earth being the center
of the Universe' I got off the phone with my (fundie nut) mother a bit ago, and she insists that proof has been found that the Earth is indeed the center of the universe

I'm not kidding.

Please ask whether this is a stance they take.

11. Sigh.... okay, back to Astronomy 101 with that!
if Earth is the center of the universe, nothing else makes sense.

If I ever get really, really rich, right after I set up the libertarian paradise (as an experiment to prove it doesn't work the way Rand and others thought it would) my next project is to fund a telescope and professional astronomer in every state that travels around and does basic, free astronomy.

I can dream, right?

16. Lark, I just read your other post on your mother....
And that's my profession. This sounds like a delusional disorder. If there are other areas of her life that, despite provable facts, she insists on believing the fantasy, that's a good indicator that it's time to seek professional help.

If this is new, there may be another issue - senile dementia (not necessarily Alzheimer's) can sometimes present in late middle age as an obsession with false information.

Since I don't know her, haven't talked to her, I can't diagnose, but I'd maybe talk to the family doctor about it. She may not know that your mother holds these irrational beliefs.

Best wishes, and sorry it's so frustrating (I've got an equally delusional parent, though of a different variety, so I sympathize!)

Best,

Pcat

19. Follow me! We can get out of this together!
Here's the theory - find a thread with a conspiracy theory you hate.

Debunk with logic.

Piss off the tin-hatters.

Repeat as necessary.

(no, I'm not normally combative about conspiracy theories - some may actually have shreds of truth to them. But there are a few that really get under my skin. DIA being one (since I live here and can go investigate such claims, and most people making the claims don't live here, and just had a couple hours of layover or something) Everyone's allowed an opinion.... )

14. Nope. Never. Don't like 'em to start, and they're cheaper and better made
in the lab these days than being dug out of war-torn countries with slave labor to fund questionable political and social efforts.

Garnets, possibly.

But now he never calls!

So talking to him gets a bit tough.

But doing my Carnac the Magnificent impression....

Calling the Bekin movers....

The question: What is Pickles going to be doing on November 3?

Dart gun, recurve bow and the sabre.

Also, to (mis)quote Elwood Blues, It's 80 some to 800, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
