Poll: 'Psycho' is best movie death ever
May 20, 2004 | LONDON (AP) -- -- In the gore stakes, Janet Leigh's shower scene in "Psycho" is the "best movie death" of all time, according to a critics' poll published Thursday.

The 44-year-old Hitchcock thriller beat other iconic movies such as "The Godfather" (22nd) and Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" (23rd) in the poll by Total Film magazine.

1. agree
Psycho (the original) was one of the creepiest movies of all time.

Hitchcock was a master.

9. Blair Witch scared the crap out of me too.
:scared:

(BTW, I saw it on video, not in the theaters.)

After I finish watching it, I'm just sitting there, and my cat Salem jumps into my lap without me seeing her until she's on my lap.

AAAAGHHHHH!!!

I levitated 5 feet straight up. :-)

10. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
When I saw it we had just had an ice storm.

And all night all I could hear was the limbs breaking off trees from the weight of the ice -- sounded just like the movements in the woods.

:scared:

11. And if your SO had decided to "have a little fun..."
As in sneaking up behind you, those would have been grounds for justifiable homicide, right? :D

13. SECOND FOR SUSPIRIA!!!!
Argento is a genius, simply put.

The beginning death scene is so operatic, so amazing....it makes an otherwise mediocre giallo a classic.

15. Oh There Are So Many Good Ones!
I Think The All Time Winner (After Some Careful Consideration) Is Brother Frank (From Hellraiser) Getting Obliterated By Pinhead's Chains Saying The Timeless Phrase "Jesus Wept"

FRIGGIN' BEAUTIFUL!

16. No way. Good flick, but hardly the best ever. I don't even own it ...
nor do I want to.

Films I like better are many, including (in no particular order): Black Orpheus, Spirited Away, Casablanca, The Wicker Man, The Triplets of Belleville, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, The Life of Brian, and many others.

18. What about Scarface *spoiler*
when Pacino gets blasted by tons of bullets with cocaine smeared all over his face and then he falls off the balcony. That's right up there.

I think Pyscho is cool but there are so many. I just offered one that I think is pretty cool.

I put the spoiler just in case people haven't seen the movie.

19. hmmm...
interesting... i was thinking horror movies, but nothing in the original post says the death needs to stricktly be a horror movie-- so this now requires some re-thought

20. Who knows maybe the intent was horror
but I don't think so since Resevoir Dogs and the Godfather also made the list. I stand by my choice as one of the best death scenes ever in Scarface.
