best movie to watch on big screen tv
i finally gave in to the hubby, and we got a 42" tv. we already had the surround sound. i confess that i love it. i do love movies, anyway. so i am having fun.
so, so far the best things we have watched are "chicago" and "master and commander".
so, if you had a new big screen tv, and netlix, with their great selection of old movies, what would be in your queue?

2. "Lawrence of Arabia"
This is a film that is wasted on the small screen.

As are some of David Lean's other films: "Dr Zhivago" and "A Passage to India"

Those are some I would recommend.

15. I second that -- you beat me to it
I found out they showed it at a B-rate movie theatre in Vancouver recently...and I MISSED IT!

Lawrence of Arabia on a movie theatre screen, could you imagine?

24. The Director's Cut has better quality video...
Anamorphic 2.35/1 ratio (better than flat letterboxing), an even cleaner print, and 5 minutes of extra yet highly worthwhile minutes.

The Director's Cut rocks the house!

29. Damn right!!
It is better. And with the commentary, with the final word on the fact that that was, indeed, Ricardo's actual chest and not a plastic fitting.

8. I liked "Moulin Rouge", except for a couple of things.
Nicole Kidman singing. Ewan McGregor singing. Nicole Kidman singing to Ewan McGregor. Ewan McGregor singing to Nicole Kidman.

Other than those things, it was perfect. :-)

16. LOL
I kinda liked Ewan. A lot of heart in his singing. And Nicole was ok, though clearly not a singer. Loved the movie though.

20. You May Turn In Your Gay Membership Card As You Exit The Club
And to think that I always thought you were a romantic. Hmmm.

I loved the way that both of them sang. Not perfect, but not as bad as American Idol. About the same way that I can sing. Imperfect, but decent.

Besides, it's all about the story. Truth. Beauty. Freedom. Love. The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Now... John Leguizamo singing?? Not pretty at all.

27. Oh yeah! Blade f*ckin Runner! Can't believe I left that one out
Also The Matrix.

Spiderman - also an excellent call. Thank God for a GOOD comic book hero movie. Haven't had a really good one since the first Batman with Michael Keaton, though I have to admit I've not caught the X-Men movies which sound like they were good. With the city scapes and swining via webbing - really needs, and earned, the big screen.

17. The Straight Story
Edited on Thu May-20-04 02:14 PM by Taverner
Trust me - this film has to be seen on the big screen.

You may have never heard of this movie but its a David Lynch flick. Don't let that put you off though - it's G rated (I know) and about as un-David Lynchian as you could get. It's about an octagenarian (sp?) driving a riding mower from Iowa to Wisconsin (he lost his license due to age) to see his estranged dying brother. The scenes of the midwest in this flick are breathtaking and you need to see them on a big screen.
