How many true friends do you have?
Not acquaintances you may be social with, but true friends who you would do almost anything for, and they would in return.

5. My wife, of course
Other than her, just one person. We've been best friends for almost 40 years. He stuck with me when I was a drunk and a druggie, and all the rest. If we know even one person like that in a lifetime, we are very lucky.

7. Until recently, I thought I had three. Now I'd say one.
I am still friends with the other two, but lets just say I overestimated our bonds.

I have had my best friend for 22 years now. No one else in my life compares.

11. IMO, 'true friends' are very rare. If someone thinks they have many,
then their standards are probably different. To me, a true friend is someone I would lay my life on the line for, and who would do the same for me, someone to share your deepest secrets and sorrows and joys with... People can have many friends, even good friends, but a true friend is a very special thing.

27. Sorry to hear it
But it's not your fault - I mean, not to be flip, but you didn't kill them. You lost them.

I lost a very true friend who was 'interventioned' by a group of 16 medical professionals and told he would die if he didn't change his ways. He didn't. Tuesday would have been his 52nd birthday.

Rest in peace, all our beloved friends who have departed before us.

32. 2 proven true friends
They have shown their willingness to do anything for me and I the same for them. There have been multiple times that this has happened. It is rather special. When I was younger, I had some good friends but neither I nor them really were capable of that level of friendship at the time.

Edited on Sun May-23-04 12:44 PM by Bertha Venation
She was my first close, good, best friend. I don't know why but through the several attempts I've made in the last 10 years, she won't let me back in. Still, I love her and would do anything for her.

Mrs. V.
Bonnie & Annette - sisters
Dale - best friend
Karen - my sisters' best friend, close to me too
Christy - woman mentioned above
Jeannette - good friend at work

When it came down to it she didn't have anyone and she was making it up.

38. 3 true friends
I could call any day, any hour for any reason and they would move heaven and earth to help me if I needed it. And vice-versa.

I just realized it with one on friday (my birthday).
My son planned a surprise for me and called a couple of my friends and family and asked them to come to Safeco Field for a Mariner Game and to surprise me. Of course family came!
Mike, my bud came. he had to take a day off of work and find someone to cover for him at his business and he drove across the state to wish me a happy birthday.

I have 2 other friends who are just the same.
They are rare and irreplaceable.

40. People are true friends at various times throughout
Edited on Sun May-23-04 12:54 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
I'm not comfortable with the question as there are circumstantial variables. I have very close friends who have had children and then become less available for what my needs might be...that doesn't make them any less of a true friend.

Likewise, someone can be there at your beck and call and they might be more of an enabler than a friend.

I've had many people in my life I consider true friends. Either I am lucky or don't put the bar so high that people can't possibly live up to it.

41. Many good friends. Don't know about "true friends"
Fortunately, I've never been in a situation where I've depended seriously on the actions of a friend, or vice versa.

I have at least four very very good friends, though.

42. None.
My friends are just buddies. They are not guys you would want to "muddy the waters" of friendship with needless emotion or sentimentality. They are men's men, suck-it-up-and-deal men, men who believe competition is the preferable form of camaraderie. I love 'em, but I need some new friends!

43. Five
Although I know that the majority of my friends would do anything for me and vice versa, and I would most likely trust them with my life, there are only 5 that I would consider my innermost circle of friends that I could absolutely not live without.

My two best friends from high school, Jess and Lauri, who have been through so much together with me. My cousin, Carly, who I have known since I was born (she's 3 months older than I). Justin, who I met in college and was the first man to ever believe in me and push me to reach further for my dreams in my life. And Jim, my boy who I can tell anything/everything to and he still loves me.

I'd say I have a rather large repertoire of friends scattered throughout the country, but without these 5 friends my life would be so much less.
