Does anyone here smoke roll-ups?
I haven't smoked in 6 years but when I did, I used to smoke roll-ups.

For those that don't know, this is when you buy a pouch of tobacco, some papers and roll the cigarette yourself. I could never smoke 'normal' cigarettes. :puke:

The brand I smoked was a very nice English tobacco called Old Holborn.

In most other parts of the world, lots of people smoke roll-ups but not too many do in the U.S.
In fact, on my very first trip here I was still smoking and I would often get funny looks from people when they saw me rolling up my own cigarette.
I always wondered why everyone was looking at me strangely until a bartender in a pub in NYC told me "You can't smoke that thing in here!"

He thought I was rolling a joint.

Has anyone else ever have or still does smoke roll-ups? :smoke:

3. I used to...
When I was trying to curb my smoking habit. I figured the deliberate act of having to roll the damn cigarette before smoking it would slow me down. It' didn't.

5. Yeah, that's what I'm doing right now.
I use a .65 oz. pouch of Bugler a day versus two packs of Camel Wide Lights. It's a lot cheaper at least. Can't say much else good for it.

8. Sounds like you're doing a little better.
I really enjoyed it when I could kick back and leisurely roll myself a smoke, but it sure was a pain in the butt when I was driving.

11. You know
I really think I was more addicted to the actual rolling of the cigarette as I was to the tobacco itself.

I used to love rolling them. It was somewhat relaxing in itself.

15. Back in the days when I was smoking...
I used to have a job driving a truck from London to Wales a few times a week.

I'd leave London at 4:00AM so the night before, I'd spend time rolling up about a dozen smokes to get me through most of the day while I was driving.

Of course the other thing that's different between roll-ups and cigarettes is that roll-ups keep going out all the time because they don't have all the chemicals in them that keep normal cigarettes alight.
So you have to go for the lighter all the time.

I used to enjoy smoking them but I'm sure glad I quit.

4. Did for awhile, still do on occassion
Especially when I want a change in flavor. If you ever get the chance, try out Three Castles. Very rich, earthy flavor.

12. Oh, they're yummy to smoke
Although they are difficult to keep alight.

And when you're finished smoking them, they can make a nice snack, for when you get the munchies. :smoke:

10. In college

For $6 a can, you couldn't beat it. Though rolling was a pain, and the rollers you could buy didn't work for squat.
My friend who was an RA in my dorm wanted to do a cigarette-rolling social, but the powers that be wouldnt allow it.

14. I did the same in college. It drove security guards crazy.
...never can tell what you're rolling up in those papers...

For the price difference, it was more than worth the hassle of letting a 50-year-old man smell my smoke.
