Big fish- good movie or bad?
Arguing with Underpants. He really liked it and I thought it sucked.

The thing is I like Tim Burton and stories like that.

He is also giving me a hard time about wanting to see I, Robot

Link momentarily

OK, with two other movies: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=1173181
I liked it, but as I say in the linked thread, my gf forgot it completely within a couple months, which might be less of a ringing endorsement.

3. took the words right out of my mouth
It moved so slow but the storyline wasn't horribly flawed.

4. Not sucky
but a disappointment for me.

It just didn't seem to work well, though I like many of the individual elements. The acting was fine, I like fantastic stories, I love MacGregor and Finney and Burton... but I thought the whole thing was just "eh".

5. Amazing
Fits into the category of 'Whimsy Movies' so don't worry too much about it and just enjoy it for what it is, sort of like Amelie.

6. Not as amazing as I had expected, but...
it's haunting.

You keep thinking about it.

7. disappointing

not bad at all, but just not nearly as sharp & edgy as burton's earlier stuff -- even elfman's score isn't up to normal par

my biggest problem was that the father/son relationship was underdeveloped -- that was supposed to be the axis of the whole film, but burton seemed more wrapped up in the quirky side stories rather than developing the actual core that connects the stories...

so i guess i was let down because burton is usually so good at articulating inner conflict (edward scissorhands, batman returns)-- where in this film, i felt like his style wasn't necessarily a representation & extension of the film's central relationship...

9. I liked it.
Wound up getting me to reflect on my parents and my own life.
