Question about Arbitron Ratings:
Does the 3.4 that AAR got in NYC mean 3.4 million listeners?

1. Not necessarily....
The points represent a set of population(ie: 1pt=100,000). That number is different depending upon the market.

I unfortunately do not know what the point represents in NYC.

2. Actually, it means nothing...
because Arbiton is a dinosaur; and it REALLY means nothing because Clear Channel is competing with only itself. Now NYC is always in a book; but the market that I live is in a book only twice a year (spring and fall). Our spring ratings period is about to end, but we won't know the results until August. Stations need to have instant results instead of old ones. Another thing that has always irritated me about Arbitron is, they send out very few books in any given market. In our market (250,000+ listening audience), they send out about 200 books. Now these 200 people can determine if someone keeps his/her job or is sent packing.
