Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive mixer?
I've had it with my current sixteen-track mixer. The pots are so dirty it's unusable. It's got a bunch of blown chips so only about 10 channels work at all.

I need:

  • two channels low-impedence microphone
  • four mono line inputs
  • three stereo line inputs
  • onboard reverb and one effects send ... or
  • two effects send and return
  • MIDI (optional)

4. Yamaha MG16.
Nice.

Also check out Behringer. I'd really like to say bad things about them cause their prices are so low. But so far, their stuff checks out fine. But in all honesty, I've never used one of their mixers.

13. I'm going to the store to look at a Behringer tonight
A friend of mine has one and likes it.

I'm think about the 12-channel version with the effects because the non-effects version has only one effects send and I need two - one for the Leslie and one for the external Reverb. I'd like three - one for the vocoder, but that's probably asking for two much.

5. My mackie 1202 vlz-pro doesn't meet all your specs, but
I'd recommend Mackie in general as far as getting your money's worth.

9. For the road? Or home studio?
I installed a couple Nady mixers for some conference room AV systems and was surprised at how nice they were for the money. But if they're gonna get dragged around to gigs, I'd go with the Mackies. Nadys won't hold up under those conditions.

10. Don't laugh
I am currently using a Carvin. It has done the job well for the price. I sold my Soundcraft 32 channel 8 buss board after I went digital and it does the job.
But...to be honest I think I would go with the Mackie or Berhenger now. They both are great boards and I am sure they will have the specs you're looking for in a decent price range.

11. I use a Behringer..
...and haven't had any problems. It's a Behringer UB802, which is definitely too small for what you're looking for, but they have some decent ones for a bit more money. It doesn't see much live use, but this one has held up pretty well so far.

Mackies were just too pricey for me. They gave me the impression that you were paying more for the name than any actual improvement over a Behringer.

14. I had a look at that
but I don't need a powered mixer. I've got lots of power and a lot of cones to move.

But Behreinger looks like where I'm going.
