MOOSES !
Edited on Fri May-28-04 03:45 PM by Submariner
Or is it Meese? :)

Wobbling on unsure legs, a 12-hour-old moose calf was almost knocked over while being groomed by its mother in the yard of a residence off Elmore Road on the Hillside. The moose calving season typically peaks between May 15 and the end of the month, according to Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologist Rick Sinnott, who says several hundred calves are born in Anchorage each spring. Sinnott says moose and bears become a real concern this time of year because of the new offspring. "They can do some damage to you if you get crosswise with the mom." 1. They are not cute when they sit on your car!
Edited on Fri May-28-04 03:51 PM by papau
I had to "sit" (drive at 15 mph) behind a family that chose to use the whole road outside of Berlin, Vt.

A friend had a Moose back up without looking and end up briefly sitting on front of car (about $3000 loss).

The idea of "hunting" moose is up there on the manly scale with shooting at a barn.

They are not afraid of or take notice of people.

:-)

2. Moose on the deck
Just came back from a fishing trip in Manitoba . We had a moose come up on the deck of the cabin at about 2:00 am . I thought was a bear, when i went to run it off it had a loaf of bread in its mouth. Damn they get big.

3. Well, theres always Isle Royale.
..not to be confused with Casino Royale....

Lots of Meese on that island, and wolves. Your backpacking trip is not complete if you didnt spot a moose.

5. I had to stop for one the other day
It was a young one or a small female and it was just s l o w l y wandering down the road. I noticed a truck stopped on the other side of the road before I noticed the moose. I just stopped and we watched it walk down the centerline of the road for a while and then turn and wander into the field.

I'm sure this won't be the last one I encounter this year.
