The Beatles' "Anna"...my favorite John Lennon vocal, period.
Lennon was a fan of Arthur Alexander, who wrote the song and performed it originally, just like he loved Gene Vincent and Elvis and Chuck Berry all of the other guys from the 50s who MATTERED.

Lennon sings the song like he MEANS it. I know that in a lot of ways guys are supposed to be first-class assholes when it comes to matters of the heart...and hey, sometimes many of us are...but I'm sure that more than a few of us knew what Lennon was singing about:

"All of my life,
I've been searching for a girl
To love me like I love you,
But every girl I've ever had
Breaks my heart and leaves me sad,
What am I, what am I supposed to do..."

Thanks again, Johnny.

2. The Beatles played some great covers in the early days
They were always ready and willing to give credit to the musicians that inspired them.

5. McCartney's vocals on "Long, Tall Sally" were amazing!
Not quite as good as Little Richard, but certainly within pissing distance.

3. As nice a job as Lennon did on "Anna," Arthur Alexander still crafted...

...the definitive version.

Even at that, however, my all-time favorite recording of Mr. Alexander's is the magnificent "Soldier of Love," also from 1962. (Who says no great rock 'n' roll came out of America in the pre-Beatles '60s?)

4. And he recorded it while suffering from a cold.
Most of the tracks on the Please Please Me LP (with the exception of "Love Me Do," "Please Please Me," "P. S. I Love You," and "Ask Me Why") were recorded all on one day (11 February 1963), while John was suffering from a rather severe cold. He alternated between popping cough drops and smoking ciggies (an odd combo, to be sure) all day long. Even "Twist and Shout" was recorded while John had a cold. I think a few days afterward, he lost his voice altogether.
