Poll question: What teachers were usually the coolest?
In High school.

It seems to me that the Drama teachers were usaully the most fun to hang out with. But the science teachers always seemed to be funny.

10. Trigonometry
Believe it or not. He's the guy who got me into coffee and who said he liked me because I was weird. But even the popular kids loved him.

3. My science teacher was incredibly cool.
I really liked the guy. My journalism counselor my senior year was pretty cool, too, but that wasn't on the list and it really doesn't count because you just got a 'pass/fail' and he didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know.

My science teacher used to teach by failure -- he set up experiments to fail so we had to figure out what went wrong. He was great at pulling it off without us seeing him mess it up, so we'd have to actually do some work to figure out what was wrong.

He also liked to do silly things that made you remember. He had a radio-controlled solar car he'd built from a Heathkit that he used to send to other teachers' classrooms with notes taped to it like 'help me -- I'm being held hostage by aliens!' Compression theory involved all of us lining up in the hallway with a Slinky stretched to its extents.

He retired a few years ago, and the school replaced him -- he must be nearly 70, by now -- but his wife died the year after he retired, so Mom says he's gone back to teaching part time at one of the other schools not too far away.

9. Spanish
Edited on Sat May-29-04 06:24 PM by MAlibdem
he was from Spain, just here for the year. He played semi-pro soccer and was also our JV soccer coach. 30 y/o and acted like an 18 y/o. Taught us dirty words and bought us liquor...my hero. Haha.

Edit: My physics teacher is a hottie too, so that's good. And she's pretty cool.

11. I loved my chemistry teacher
He used to tell us stories about "the hippie days," as he called them, picking up hitchhiking Krishnas, only to leave them by the side of the road under the pretext of a "bathroom break" when one of them pulled out a sawed-off shotgun. He was an awesome teacher who reminded me in many ways of Miller from "Repo Man." He kept telling us he was going to show us how to make Acid, but then the school year ended.

14. English teachers were all progressive, ex-hippie types
with lots of good books to lend me, and a sympathetic ear. They were great.

16. I had some cool English teachers in high school and in particular in
college. One, a creative writing professor, invited the class to her loft for poetry readings as our final exam. How cool is that?

19. This one is tough
All of my teachers have been great, but I have to go with the science teachers, mostly because I did some extracurricular stuff that they managed.

All in all, Drama teachers seem to either be up or down (no moderation), the English ones are great to talk with(about material being covered), the History ones to debate with, and the Math and Science to talk with on a more conversational level. Plus, the Sci/Math teachers always seem to have the sense of humour that strikes a chord with me

21. An English teacher was my coolest.
Junior year- this real hippie type guy. He made the class easy in a way, but we learned a lot at the same time. Great teacher.

22. English teachers were jerks
I didn't like any of my English teachers, come to think about it. Social Studies, I liked all my social studies teachers. Maybe it has more to do with the interest of the student than the teacher?
