Memphis tips anyone?
I and my partner have been thinking of visiting Memphis.

We would probably stay downtown, and, of course, would see Sun Studio, Beale Street, maybe the Lorraine Hotel (which I understand is a museum) and just maybe Graceland.

What id like to know are some out of the ordinary things to see and do and eat at in Memphis.....maybe the funkier side of town, or the more "bohemian"......

1. The Riverwalk is pretty cool on a hot day.
There's also a museum there. The Pink Palace might have a good exhibit going. Memphis Zoo is pretty nice. :)

2. Definitely eat some "Memphis Tips" while there
Thought that's what this thread was about :)

Memphis Tips are Tri Tips (I think, or just beef tips) cooked Southern Style. Yummy!

3. I've mostly seen the tourist trap parts
A lot of Memphis has become touristy, but I do want to highly reccomend you set aside 1-2 hours for the Civil Rights Museum in the Lorraine Hotel. It's incredibley moving and should not be missed.

Last time I was there I went to some cool places far from Beale Street, but since my local friend was acting as quide I can't really remember any of the names or locations of where I went...but I had a great time.

4. Midtown
The Cooper-Young district in particular definitely has the more bohemian feel to it; less touristy.

6. I'm sorry. Yes, they're streets.
It's where Cooper and Young, two main roads, intersect. Highland St, also in midtown, is also another stretch that is off the beaten path tourism-wise. Mostly bars, cafes and restaurants and clubs with live music. I used to live in the heart of this area a few years ago, but I'm in the 'burbs now and haven't been there in awhile. Don't forget to see the pandas at the zoo, and The Pyramid (downtown) is featuring famous Italian Renaissance artists.
